The developers say they have looked at previous Far Cry games and have also looked at the bad and good points of Far Cry 2, it has also been said that FC2 needed tweaking rather then a complete overhaul.

I made an article that covers most of the Issues from FC2 and possible solutions for each problem, and things from previous FC games which would be great to see return in Far Cry 3

I have never played Far Cry on PC so I can not comment on it, but feel free to chip in with any suggestions.

I hope it is of some use to the right people.

The link above shows the Height Indicator & 45% Brush/Item Rotation from the FCIP Editor (console)

I can't believe they did not include this in the editor on FC2, it is all guess work when raising height, an indicator would be so much faster and easier to use - it makes sense to include this in the FC3 Editor.

As for the 45% Brush Rotation option, this was so quick and easy to use, it was a matter of holding down a trigger on the controller and pressing the D-Pad Left or Right to rotate the brush/item, this would click around at 45% with every push on the D-Pad which made things extremely accurate and straight, I am sure it would be possible to rotate an item in any direction using the same controls as the previous console games (FCIP - FCI - FCIE)

It is pretty difficult getting things lined up fully square in FC2, They might look ok but to continue the full length of the map area with a complex structure is time consuming and difficult, by been able to rotate any item by 45% would be like having a birthday in the editor.

Above I am lining up pieces which will eventually be raised into the air.

Thats them neatly placed and ready to be raised

On raising them you can see that from underneath they are hollow/see through, now I have to clone them and flip them so that the under side is solid. (What a waste using double the pieces just because the items were not made solid looking)

This is the tricky part above, although you can roughly guess when the cloned item is close to looking perfect, it can always be a slight fraction out, now why don't they just allow us to rotate a piece in any direction by 45%
To simply hold in a trigger and tap left or right on the D-Pad we could rotate the piece left or right / up or down on the D-Pad could rotate in that direction and if we had to go diagonal then we could use the D-Pad in that direction or as an alternative use the Thumb Stick while holding in the Left or Right Trigger (it would be extremely simple for them to map this onto the controller and include this option in the editor.

It looks half ok above but if I were to do this for the entire length of the map I am sure it would run out somewhere.

View from underneath - Not only would it be easier and neater to have a 45% brush rotation but it would also be a lot faster for lining things up.

One thing I used to do was use the grid lines to try and line an item up, following the lines to try and get a lengthy structure straight.

Above I was adding in a wall effect - It is not quite square and needs adjusting slightly, these things are a nightmare to get just right, again by rotating a piece at 45% each time we could make sure that every surface if flat and every wall is straight - IMO we need this option.

Camera Auto Scroll

This is me been picky but every single time I go into the Far Cry 2 editor I have to turn OFF Auto Scroll, it is a shame we could not have an option to save our editor settings so we did not have to keep ticking the same things to turn them off.

Map Search and Published By

It can be a nightmare finding maps and spelling people's gamer tags, I think the following options would help out in a big way.

1. When searching for a map by Author could we have it so that just adding a few letters or a single word would still carry out the search and list any gamer tags available starting with those entered letters.

2. Once you find a map by the Publisher could we have an option so that we can look at all maps by this person, I understand we can do this when entering their name but if we only knew the map name it would be a good option to let us view all their work at the click of a button.

3. Map Lock Out
I think everyone wants this option where the Author has an option to lock out the map to stop it from been re-edited by others. But the option should still be there to un-tick the lock out map box if they decided someone else could work on the map at a later date.

One other thing that gets me thinking is the Fire in Far Cry 2, although it looks amazing I wondered if it would be silly to have an option to turn fire on or off in a map, If I thought I could make a map and have fire turned off to get the performance working a lot smother then I would consider this option, Some maps look great with fire but others don't need it - I just wondered if it would make any difference?
