Please post (in this thread) the contents of the LOG.TXT file from your Myst V Program Files folder.

Also, take a look at Myst V install and run errors (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3471054943/m/8551013063), especially my post of Sat September 24 2005 10:32.

I dont have a log file, because i dont have a Myst 5program files folder because the game doesnot start the install process at all! It stops when i press install and its trying to check the java virtual machine... I downloaded java version 5 update 4 but again the same problem!

Did you install Java from a clean boot, as in step 5 of my post of Sat September 24 2005 10:32?

I did that too, uninstalled my java and reinstalled from a clean boot like your step 5 but i get the same message again when i hit the install button in the autorun screen... "Error in instructions. Invalid jvm file name specified in LAUNCH. Invalid variable spesification. Line Number (4)." After that it stops again! Is there anything else i can try?

Take a look at the stickied topic Myst V: Java-related Installation Problem (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3471054943/m/1361061163).

If you still get this error:
Run the installer from a DOS prompt at the CD drive's root, type in or copy the command:

setupwin32.exe -is:tempdir C:\temp -is:log C:\templog.txt

Voilą, that fixed the issue for me. Chances are the install will run smoothly now, and if not you'll have a logfile. I never got past the "Line Number (4) error" with any of the suggestions on this site.

I find it quite ridiculous what these "helpers" suggest, anything from in/uninstalling SP1/2 or your virtual disk drives or fumbling with your autostarts short of reformatting your hard drive. Of course, I never have anything better to do than play Mist... ah, Myst! The idea to let users do the beta testing isn't exactly new, but I didn't pay for this sort of thing. Any respectable company would have provided a hotfix (or a workaround like the above) long ago. Naturally I hope the programmers spend a weekend in hell ;-/, that's what you deserve for coding **** like this.

That said, enjoy the game!
