GGL Wire sat down with Ubisoft to talk about their FPS game Far Cry 2, one of the more interesting games we have seen at Games Convention in Leipzig. Far Cry 2 is certainly the most beautiful one - and yes, we have seen Crysis too. Here is the interview (a write-up on the game will come too, eventually):

That is the single best interview with a developer I have ever seen... UBISOFT is changing their ways as far as paying more attention to the Fan base.. This is great.. I don't even care about Crysis anymore lol.. well almost

Better looking than Crysis? That's encouraging to hear.

Just finished watching the interview. It's good to know that what you see is what you get with this game, unlike some others where they script or pre-render all this **** which a lot of the gaming public stupidly believes is for real.

As the link provided by TU34 (Thanks!) seems pretty busy: here's a link to the same interview on gamespot! (http://www.gamespot.com/video/942192/6177476/far-cry-2-interview-1)
EDIT:I got through now:it's NOT the same interview, but the same story now told in front of the UBI-boot! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

derjodler, these are two different videos. The GameSpot one you linked to is GS's interview with Clint Hocking. This GGL one is with LP Pharand.

You're absolutely right! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
But it's basicly the same story....
But only the gamespot interview I can watch fullscreen in great quality on my 22" tft-screen http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The demo was really pretty cool, but to say it already surpassed Crysis... I wouldn't go that far.
There's still a lot being worked on. The fire still looks a bit washed out and the particle count could be higher. It also still lacked dx10 effects, as far as I could see. The trees looked more natural in Crysis as well.
Don't get me wrong: It was great, and I am aware that I was only shown a very early version (which I am no less grateful for). I'm just saying you shouldn't compare a pre-alpha to a beta version.
Let's hold the horses, a little, nay?

Btw: That T-shirt LP is wearing in the 12 min Interview, it probably the very same I'm wearing right now. (Though only he can confirm that)

I'll ask him when he returns back to the office. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It's a great tee. It shrunk when I washed it, so know it fits me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nice interview, and I love the note it ended on. Showing mere trailer movies rather than actual gameplay footage is pointless. Trailers are way overdone in movies too. Often times they hype up things that never appear in the final release.

I'm really looking forward to this game. The only thing the interview lacked was details on the wildlife. Someone said only herbivores will be used but I've found nothing to confirm that yet.

I can see how complex predator AI would somewhat conflict with the gameplay, but it would be nice IMO if it were at least a bit of an element, even if in small numbers at night time.

It does make sense though that predators, as sneaky as they are, would want to avoid the traffic and noise of faction encampments where their prey is less likely to be prevalent.

About the only thing that concerns me so far is that the screenshots are not as crisp and clear in image quality as Crysis or even Far Cry 1. Perhaps this is due to it being still in pre alpha stage, but I often get the feeling the game will have a bit of a fuzzy texture to it.

The graphics seem flushed with HDR, kinda like Colin McRae DIRT graphics. This makes the game look gorgeous, but if you look into it a bit harder you can see they can still sacrifice some of the detail that say, Crysis has and still wow the audience with the glossiness of the whole thing.

That's what I think anyway but the detail level seems fine from what I've seen so far and I think the game looks real purdy.

Well the screenshots shown so far don't look nearly as photo realistic as those of Crysis, but I'm sure that means it will run on lower spec. As for HDR, personally I think it's overdone and can ruin the look of a game, though I don't see that present in FC2, just a bit of fuzziness. What I may be seeing in some shots is a bit of a heat wave effect from the desert, motion blur, etc, but many of the still shots seem to be noticeably fuzzier than those of Crysis or even FC to me. Certainly we won't know until at least some gamelpay footage is shown or better yet a demo release. The latter I suspect won't be until the end of winter.

Nor it ever said the whole game takes place in a city. In short terms and understandable terms no it not a scarface style Rpg in not much of any way.

nice one. the more I hear about FC2 the more I'm glad nobody asked me what I would have liked for FC2. this direction the game is heading off is so much better than I hoped for. No JackCarver is forgotten. thank you
