I use the "Blockschrift für flugzeuge":

Or you could just wait till the 1944 time frame when the Germans did it all by hand...
You should see some of the number scripts used.

The one vpmedia mentions is the official standard indeed. But, fieldjobs (and like said especially later in the war) might result in differences. So, allways look closely at photo's of the aircraft you are skinning.
The fonts we have simply are made by the rules as they are documented, but in real life things often look a bit different.
Maybe you allready know it, or have your own way, but here is a trick to do the outlined numbers as you often see on German aircraft:

Related question... when I unzip these ttf files I copy them into c:\windows\fonts. When I then use them in PS7, at normal font sizes (under 72 pt) these fonts show up as microscopic. I have to manually enter a VERY LARGE font size (like 1200 pt or bigger) to get them to be of usable size. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?
Asking this because in my freelance work painting commercial pc game racing car skins, I can normally place large size car numbers on the sides and hoods of cars at 120 pt or smaller size (yes, same dimension bmps = 1024 X 1024). I would think this no different than the size of squadron codes for aircraft on a similar sized bmp. Yet I have to bump the font size to these VERY Large sizes to get a similar effect on these aircraft skins.

The same thing happened to me, I think this is a bug in Photoshop CS/CS2.

I see this problem from time to time in PS7 also. It usually happens when I'm using an Bright-converted indexed file and convert it back to RGB.

It has to do with your initial image settings.
Just try:
Make a new image size 1024 pixels square and set the dpi to 72 (the dpi I use for my skins)
Then you have pretty normal font sizes, maybe a bit small....
Then make another one, same size other dpi settings, say 10 dpi. See what happens when you type text which has the same size, it will be microscopic.
Larger dpi will result in larger text sizes.
Text is in the unit pt.
pt is a unit which is related to the metric measures. So, a larger dpi scale will result in larger looking text when you look in pixels (as we do). When you look in inch or cm (printed size) the text will stay the same size.
Now how you correct it in your image:
Go to resize image.
Set your skin to 72 dpi and make sure it stays the siz of 1024 x 1024 pixels!! Because when you change the dpi and keep the inches or cm the same your skin will change in pixels (probably grow larger, given your problem)

Thanks, both of you. I've played with these settings and that indeed appears to be the problem. When converting a Bright-converted indexed file to an RGB file, it retains the 1024 x 1024 size, but (on my PS7) resets to 2.5 dpi. (LOL!) I hadn't noticed that till you mentioned it. Once changed to 72 dpi (being careful to retain the 1024 x 1024 sizing) the fonts now appear normal sized. Thanks again for the scoop on this.
