you have to use the "L" lock key while having the "target" ship in the periscope to take the pic mate.

Hello uzix,
Welcome to the SH4 Forum.
When you do a photo recon mission you have to lock on the the ship you are taking a picture of with the "L" Key first. The "L" key locks you on to the target. You may have to take more then one picture. It depends on the mission. You may have to take pictures of a few ships.

I always ID them, but I don't think it's necessary...seems not, but I plan to sink them anyway. I got in one recon and sunk all the ships before I took the picture. I left and saw the star there...shoot. Still, I went back and took a few pictures of gunboats, ect..and got the mission done...two carriers were still burning.....
Those carriers in Rabaul are just so easy.
