Ok, after 2.5 weeks of messing around I have about given up. Originally, I installed the game and was unable to get past the spash screen displayed when a single player game is loading. The computer would just hang and require a hard reboot. Graphic settings were on medium. Figured ok, the computer has been running for over a year now....lets reinstall everything.

Purchased xp pro, downloaded and installed all new drivers for keyboard, mouse, motherboard, vid card, sound card, monitor...etc. Reinstalled the game, installed the 1.3 patch. Exact same outcome. Tweaked according to numerous resources, absolutely no difference.

Changed from Direct3D to OpenGl, low settings. Finally, I can play. Problem: the ground is black and I see no water, hence, I cant even tell when I am going up a hill. I can change any setting and the game will continue to run like this....Except, changing Water or Lighting to anything other then Low will cause the computer to hang at the game loading splash screen.

WTF am I missing, I can play every other game. Everything was reinstalled, all new drivers for EVERY device/component. System details below:

9500 Pro
SBLive
K7S5A Pro (sis 735)
AMD XP 2000+
ITouch Keyboard
IFeel Mouse
17" Viewsonic Monitor
FPS2200 Speakers

One last note, no apps are running when I attempt to play the game....and considering whats happening I cant see it being another app causing the problem...of hardware for that matter. Any help would be much appreciated.

I had the best luck with Catalyst 4.3 drivers. I'm not running XP, so I don't know if this will help, but try reading my post from a while back (search for nightcrest). There is one that listed all of the things I tried. Good luck, this game is too **** finicky, but fun once you get it going.

Forgot to add I have 512 mb of ram.

Ok...tried so many different driver versions I dont even remember which ones now. Just dl and installed 4.9, I can now see the terain and water in OpenGL. Problem now though, is it crashes in 2 seconds.

I see ATI has also just release 4.11's, will give those a try as soon as I have time.

Ok, I installed the newest drivers (4.11). I now have terrain in OpenGL mode..YAY!!! Also, I can run in Direct3D with the light setting on low. I can increase everything else but the light setting.

On a side note, the computer still hangs every 5 - 15 minutes. LOL, slowly getting there. But I am curious, is/did anyone else have this exact same problem with a 9500 pro vid card with winxp? Reason I ask is it appears more and more that the culprit is ATI's drivers and not the game.

Well, my last post was premature. The game either freezes within the first few seconds of the game, or it runs for a maximum of 5 minutes. Realllllly getting frustrated here.
