Hi All,

Right now the only way, while flying online, to type a message or read a message from another player is to press "Shift + M", this makes it very difficult to communicate with anyone because unless you bring down the chat area you have no idea that anyone is trying to talk to you.

Would it be possible to change this so you would have a constant Translucent chat area at the top of the screen that can be resized similar to IL2FB and most modern first person shooters. That way you don't have to press any keys to read what everyone is saying while flying and engaging the opposition. Right now the chat facility is just too inconvenient and most of the time it's not even used because you know it's highly unlikely that anyone will read your message. Also, it would be great if we could have a "team message only key" and "global message key" so we could choose to talk to everyone or just our team mates.

Ok that's all /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Cosmo.

Hmmn . . .

In Flanker, a little translucent box did appear in the top corner . . . you could read what people were saying.

There was also an option to turn it off. Little check box in the big window you got if you started while the game was still paused . . . .

Now I don't know how Lomac works in this regard, but I'd find it surprising if they hadn't carried over something similar . . . might be an option somewhere.

Seems sad that ED have taken out a couple of these neat touches from Flanker . . . . shall have to wait and see.

Fingers crossed for Lomac mid-life upgrade . . . . the .5 patches for Flanker both brought a new heap of goodies.

IMO the text should just be echoed on the screen the instant it's typed. Whether it's just the text on its own in a readable color or with some translucent background, it should fade after a couple of seconds.

You can then press a key combo to bring up the chat box to look at the "message history" in case you missed anything.

Best of both worlds.

If anyone played F-16 MRF or Quake 2, they will know what I'm talking about.

Plus there is currently a tick box that says "To all". Uncheck that and it send to team maes only (I assume).

As stated earlier.... I wish that when someone sends a message, it pops up like when the tower/awacs/wingman says things in the single player mode.

And the message also appears in the history box liek it does now.

Wags mentioned on UBI Lo-Mac room the other day that the developers were working on changing the chat.

I just flew my first coop mission on HL. It was very cool, but I thought the chat box was very poorly implemented.

You have to bring it up yourself, and when it's active, you cant do anything else (hit commands, look around, shoot, etc.).

Players can be talking to you and you have no clue unless you keep bring up the chat box...not very cool at all. Then while it's up, you can't do anything.

Compare the LOMAC chat system to something like FB and you'll see how user-unfriendly it is. The chat text in FB is always active and scrolls by itself. I certainly hope they try to fix this.

Here's a mod for the chat window that makes the background transparent. At least you can have it up all the time and it won't obscure your view as much.

It replaces the Lock On\FUI\Common\main-1024.dds file with one that has the alpha channel adjusted where the texture for the chat window is.

Use at your own risk and backup your existing file first!
