ign board about endwar (http://ve3dboards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=26610990)
and
gamebiz (http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=15915)
unlike that other thread, these two articles say nothing about the new tom clancy game being an RTS. if its going to the consoles and ubisoft wants to make money then its definitely not going to be an RTS. FPS for sure.

Both of those articles say:
"EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online "
Leading an army may not be RTS but it sur edoes not sound like FPS either.

i was thinking more along the lines of multiplayer being 100s of individuals playing against each other. similar to battlefield 2 and 2142 with their whole squad and commander style of game.
"Ubisoft promises that EndWar "will push the envelope of technology, showcasing artificial intelligence, graphics, physics and animations that were not possible prior to the launch of the new hardware systems."
pushing AI, graphics and animations are all things that are pushed in all games. physics on the other hand is something focused on in FPSs. another point is that they are making the games for consoles. thinking off the top of my head i cant think of any successful RTSs on any console.

100 people playing together online is impossible for consoles, much less for user hosted servers on Live.
This game will either be an RTS or an FPS online like Battlefield 2.
Physics are also in RTS games, ie. Company of Heroes.

Chances are with the ordering of armies and the physics system being pushed as they say. It probably won't be an RTS or FPS. One because you can't have much physics integration in an RTS and controlling armies through first person on a controller might be a bit tricky. Chances are it will be a tactical 3rd person game. Similar to the Conflict series. (Just hope it's better than those games) I think having one main commander or squad leader at your disposal while you order around troops and take action yourself. With the talk of moving entire armies I would think that if it were a Third Person Tactical game you would have the ability to got to a map system to send out orders and objectives to your squads/troops. But hey with the way they are keeping this game secret I don't know what to expect. I'd personally like to see a game set so that you controlled a map and you could click on certain squads which would let you could control each squad personally in a first or third person perspective. Similar to the Battlefield 2 swap feature.

OHH YES IT IS. which btw sucks. ign.com reported this:
EndWar is a new brand in the Tom Clancy pantheon of games. Directed by strategy veteran and Ubisoft's creative director Michael de Plater, who has worked extensively on the Total War series, the game is set on the battlefield of World War III. De Plater's team is made up of an experienced Tom Clancy crew that has worked on Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Splinter Cell games.
Set for release on next-gen consoles (when will they become current-gen?), Ubisoft says EndWar features artificial intelligence, graphics, physics, and animations that were not possible on previous systems.
"Our development teams are invigorated to be creating the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand," said Serge Hascoët, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. "Our success with Tom Clancy franchises is unparalleled in the next-generation and Tom Clancy's EndWar will be a marvelous addition to the already critically acclaimed library of games. A strategy game like no other, EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online in real global locations on the massive battlefields of World War III."
i know some of us heard this already but its official now. i was hopeing for a fps type game with a adventure element.
