If that won't work try disabling the overlay mode:
WMP: Options - Performance - Advanced - Video Acceleration: Turn off "Use overlays".

Or you can use something like FRAPS to do it. You can download FRAPS for free.

Just take a look at my post and try to do so. It should work.

JCD - i got nothing. I'm using Windows Media Player 9. I pause the movie, press 'print screen' and the pointer (arrow) flashes/pulses, but nothing happens. I've turned off the overlays as you suggested (unticked box), under the 'video acceleration'.
Unless the pic is going somewhere where i can't find it, nothing happens.
What should actually happen after you press 'printscreen'?

@Mouse03
Well, after you've pressed the "Print Screen" button you just open an application like MS Paint and then Edit -- Insert. If you create a snapshot via the "Print Screen" button the whole content of the screen is copied to the clipboard. From there you can insert it into any application supporting this functionality.
If you press Alt+"Print Screen" only the active window will be copied to the clipboard.
