assistance off PROBLEM

Does anyone know how to play with assistance off.
I play the whole demo in assistance off. I love it! So I buy the game and online doesn't even work so I say what the hell I'll play the singleplayer. I start it up and hit the assistance off button and is all I get is a stupid GONG sound. I might as well play Ace Combat. How is it even possible to make a demo that works and a game that does not???

You can only do assistance off in single player after you complete level 5. It is part of the story line.

Off mode works fine for me in multiplayer.
