hope they put gnolls in the new town. They looked great in h3, especially the gnoll heroes.I would rather them than orcs. Orcs are overused in all fantasy games now.

Why is it that everytime I quote you to show people your inapropriate login name, the message posting fails?

Gnolls, gnolls? I love gnolls! Here's my favorite Gnoll of all €¦ http://www.open.org/~hodge/Emoticons/Avatars/Alkin-hmm_106.jpg €¦ isn't he cute?

If gnolls are in Heroes V, I just hope they are speedier than in Heroes III.

Gnolls should be larger I think. They are too weak everywhere. Since when dogs were small? OR, rather, wolves? Some large and powerfull gnoll with a giant flail would look good... and we'll see who is going to be a pet then...

Well, hyenas are kind of not that big. That is pretty much a gnoll. I want to see a gnoll hero with two heads (mutated) but has more starting knowledge and expert scouting

Because two heads are better than one? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

There you go!
exactly what I had in mind. Although it looks pretty tough. I want one head to be mentally challanged

Dregonar

HoMaM can't use that. It's coptrited. The stupid company locked it up.

They can use a likeness if they make one head downsyndrome... or something like that.

Plus they don't even care about that kind of stuff most of the time in games it would seem ...

Dregonar

Well, I suppose the gnol, or, as it is named there, Ettin, is not as copyrited as the ophidian, saberclaw, iron lich, chaos serpent and other stuff. But those are sure copyrited. Shame, they are just cool, and the game is 10 years old (see the graphics?), and they are still keeping them...

Sorry, offtopic. But IMHO the heads should be even, or then that would be an ettin.

Or one could be the mute genius and the other the charming warrior. one with warrior knowledge and one with the wisdom etc.

Would make an interesting hero to fight and be in the storyline even if you couldn't be him...

Dregonar
09-05-2005, 12:34 AM
Yeah, that would be great in a storyline... Ah, so many good ideas, but no one reads this...

How do you think, would gnolls fit into an Abyss castle? Im isn't sure they will, but I like them so much.

socketboy
09-05-2005, 12:35 AM
eh maybe. Who knows what kind of stuff they are going to pull. Maybe at least there could be a couple different kinds of nutral gnolls, regular, and gnoll kings or somthing. Kings have the two heads. WOuld be cool

Dregonar
09-05-2005, 12:39 AM
Gnoll kings could just be an upgrade.

I don't think ubi reads the forum. Besides, Nival is the creator. Did you hear about the triangle grid idea anyway?

socketboy
09-05-2005, 12:40 AM
No I didn't. I am pretty sure they are sticking with square. But where was the triangle? Burried in another unread thread somewhere?

Dregonar
09-05-2005, 12:51 AM
It wasnt here. It's here: http://forums.nival.com/rus/showthread.php?t=28595&page=3&pp=40 (http://forums.nival.com/rus/showthread.php?t=28595&page=3&pp=40)

It starts at the bottom, there are a lot of drawings there. It's pretty simple - just that the grid is made out of triangles, but I'm not sure that is a good idea, in fact, its hard to program.

yeah it is ok, I wouldn't mind it. I don't know if it is really needed though.

About Gnolls:

1) I do not know who created gnolls the first time. They are, as far as I know, not to be found in mythology.
2)In the RolePlayingGames by Stephan M. Sechi and Vernie Taylor the Book "The Arcanum" (out of print since something 'bout 15 Years, I guess) there is a race of animal-men, called "Andaman".
There are different Andaman, those with Jackal Heads are called "Gnolls".
2) In the early D&D games Gnolls have Hyena Heads
3) They are supposed to be a magical crossbreed between Gnomes and Trolls in the early D&Ds. That seems strange to me, since Gnolls have nothing in common with Gnomes nor with Trolls in the D&D universe.
4) In the D&D 3.5 Monster Manual Volume 3 a new race of gnolls is descripted, called Flind Gnolls.
5) Gnolls are larger and stronger than humans or even orcs in D&D. They are very chaotic and live a life of murder and malice.
6) Gnolls have their own, twisted druids.
7) Their Patron is the gaunt demonprince Yeenoghu, a servant of the god of malice, Erythnul.
Irritating: Yeenoghu temporarily was the master of the infamous King of Ghouls, Doresain.
That is all D&D-stuff and has nothing to do with HoMM.
8) Gnolls have been folk of tatalia in H3, so are more kind of neutral, rather than evil in the former HoMM universe.
9) In Warcraft 3 and WoW Gnolls are the standard rank-and-file cannonfodder neutrals.
10) For some reason, gnolls have a reputation for beeing unbelieveable lazy. I don't know where this comes from. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
11) Gnolls seem to favor flails over all other weapons. That is one reason why I like them.

They would fit in perfectly in any savage, warlike town, both evil and neutral, as well as in any chaotic or neutral faction.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would prefer not to see 2-headed gnolls. my fave is the one with the gnoll speciality. Drakon or Dracon or something like that. He looked really dangerous http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.
