I was very pleasantly surprised to find Brookelyn and Valkyrie lecturing owners of the R6:Vegas Collector's Edition on the true history of the R6 franchise in the feature "Rainbow Six: Retrospective".

Very well done feature, ladies, though the video editor evidently couldn't tell the difference between R6:1's graphics and those of Rogue Spear, because they kept mixing up the two. (Small matter. Maybe I'll rip the DVD and put each scene in its proper place.)

Valkyrie got those tight groupings because she had an assault rifle Vs. your pistol, Brookelyn. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It's great to have another R6 game that makes you deny important things like eating, sleeping and grooming... I think?

I think I'll buy the PC version, too. I can't get those headshots that you ladies get with these thumbsticks. I look at the leaderboard and am quite saddened by my placings. I suck with thumbsticks.

Frag *****. heh Me, too. I HATE it when I fumble one.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Ah, the Limited Collector's Edition, I presume?

Too bad, I'll never get to see any of this. For some reason Ubi isn't offering LCE's in Canada atm. Splinter Cell was the same way.

You'd think with their biggest office in Montreal, that wouldn't be the case. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Of course, if you should ever happen to encounter any member of the PMS clan in Rainbow Six, it is important to be familiar with a few survival tips...

That would be nice. I definitely would've picked up the Collector's Edition but as Magiz mentioned, it's not an option for us.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

On the subject of the Dolls, I was at EB for a few minutes yesterday and was thumbing through the R^ strategy guide. I noticed the girls had given thier expert tips as to the best way to approach the different maps. Very cool and helpful as i discovered yesterday. You girls should consider reprinting that info on the site. Either as a forum or a blog style info dump. Or just its own section on the main site.

Indeed.

That could be a very helpful read. A lot of us don't have the time spent on these maps that you ladies do. Your opinions on how to approach them, could be very useful to some.

Then again...I guess we could just buy the guide, as well...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Brookelyn & Valkyrie, check your PM's. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Here's why Rainbow Six 1 on the PC rocked so hard.

This movie, "Who Dares Wins" (UK)/"The Final Option" (USA), came out in 1982.

IMDB Entry (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083941/)

I saw it around 1984 or 1985. I enlisted in the Army in '86, but continued to be a fan of the UK's Special Air Service and their "BOOM! Headshot!" skills. (U.S. Army regular soldiers are taught to aim "center of mass", to the solar-plexus area of the body. Delta Force initially learned its stuff from the S.A.S.)

In '88 or '89, while still serving in the Army, I sent an idea, complete with diagrams, for an "infantry simulator" to Microprose, a prime developer for the Commodore 64. Microprose R&D said they would look into it. (I wasn't selling the idea. I just wanted to play it.) I believe that EA's SEAL Team is the realization of that idea. (You can see copyright ownership changing hands from one Yoshi, I think, to EA.) It came out in '92, I think.

But when I saw the oversized box for Rainbow Six 1 on the PC, boasting live voice comm, I KNEW I had to play that game.

Rainbow, based at Hereford, the HQ's of the Special Air Service, learned its skills from them, bringing additional skills from other branches to form the "best of the best of the best".

The S.A.S. still kept its counter-terrorist unit under tight wraps during the filming of this movie and even later years. I believe there is some misinformation, purposeful disinformation and Hollywoodizing in the following clips, but these are the biggest action sequences of the movie, and the Rainbow gameplay doesn't fail to come through.

Takedown Scenes (http://www.idfsquad.com/sas/)

As you can see, there are elements to these methods that haven't seen realization in the Rainbow franchise, until now.

"The Regiment" is a PC title that most closely duplicates the method of the S.A.S. in this movie, but it does lack some things that Rainbow Six: Vegas has. Vegas also attempts to be a simulation of CURRENT (not 1980's) CQB technique, which is undoubtedly a significant update since the hostage situation at the Iranian Embassy in London, on which this movie is loosely based.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Aah, I'll probably just wind up doing something to cancel it out. lol

Hey, was Brookelyn REALLY *9* when she was deathmatching on a 56k modem? If R6 was out in 98, that would make her 17 or 18? That can't be right. She did wag her finger at the camera, though, just like that "I did not have..." fellow, so she must be telling the truth. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Time to get Inch-High Private Eye on the case.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

actually I think 56k bit came out in 1996 and that would put her off about 5 years.

However, blame me. Even though most is scripted except the voiceovers where you actually here us talking about our gaming experience on these games, I wasnt going to date myself with that line so she did it for me haha. As you know a woman's strong point isnt math MUHAHAHAH http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

She didn't necessarily mean deathmatching in R6.

What? I thought women were better at math.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
