Hi all, I've been playing the standard version of SH4 ( patched to 1.4 with TMO) for some time, and loving it.

Well yesterday I got a package in the mail. My wife had ordered the gold edition ( as a surprise for me) and it arrived.

I'm ready to install it in the computer, and this is where I could use a hand.

It's been along time since the original game was installed and we had some help then. ( we're not the most computer smart people)

Can someone please give us an exact way on how to install SH4 gold edition + TMO and maybe RSRD ( I'd like to try it) on a vista system.

I assume we'd have to uninstall the standard version first.

Thanks very much
Jim

Hello Jim,

You can keep SH4 1.4 installed.
You may want to create a new folder next to the one that 1.4 is in and install the gold edition there.

One problem you will have is your saved games for 1.4 and the gold edition will both be listed in your saved when your in the game. This doesn't hurt anything. You just have to notice which is which.
There is a program out that will make a separate save folder for the gold edition but not sure if you want to do that now.

When you go from 1.4 to 1.5 you have to switch mods to. Super Mods are made for either 1.4 or 1.5 and you can't interchange them.

TMO for version 1.5 can be found here. (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6421019045/m/1191029895)

Since you're using a Vista as an OS, make sure when you install SHIV that you don't install to the default location which is C:\ProgramFiles\WOTP or something like that. Instead, install directly to your C: drive. You can name the folder whatever you wish so you can remember where it is. This might save you some grief.

And, make sure you disable "User Account Control". It doesn't happen with every program but, it has been known to interfere with installations, on an indescriminate basis.

Thanks for the info everyone. Does anyone have a link to the RSRD mod that will work with TMO?
Thanks again
Jim

I believe this is the link (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=123467&highlight=rsrd) you want for RSRD (run silent run deep).

thanks everone for your help.
I've installed SH gold edition and it runs off of the disk. I've also loaded TMO2 and RSRDCTMO V502 in a JSGME file. When I activate either one of these mods and start up SH the mods don't take. Atleast nothing shows up on the game to make me believe they are there. I am obviously missing something.
Can someone please tell me what I've missed?
Thanks
Jim

Something's wrong....SH4 Gold should not run off the disk....So it's back to square one for you. Forget the mods. You have to get the game installed and running properly before you think of modding it. Uninstall it...USING THE DISK option for uninstalling, and then delete the SH4 folder in the My Documents folder. Re-install to the C:\ directory- NOT to the default directory, and DON'T check the box to run SH4 at the end of install. Just click on FINISH. Take the disk out of the drive and RESTART the computer, then run SH4. It should run WITHOUT the disk. If it doesn't, you have a bum disk or NOT the Gold edition (Version 1.5).

Thanks! I uninstalled and then reinstalled and I was able to put a shortcut on the desktop. The game now runs without the disk.

Now, what to do to get the mods?
I still have some remaining files in old SH4 file in Program Files and I have the new SH4 I just installed in the c:\ directory. My Mods folder is in the old SH4 Program file, along with the unzip and JSGME. I tried again to do the Mods with the JSGME and it will not acknowledge it in the game. Do I just move those folders to where I have the new game installed in the C:\ directory?

I would like the TMO2 and the RSRD mods. (I have already downloaded them and they are in the JSGME directory when I click on the Icon.

Thank you so much for your help.
Jim

I would uninstall JSGME then install JSGME in the new main Silent Hunter folder like you did with the other SH4.

Theoretically, you could just cut & paste the folders to the new SH4 folder. But....Do as YopperB says. Better to start with a "clean" slate than to save a bit of work/time.

Sorry I haven’t gotten back. With the storm in the Northeast, we have been without power all day.

As I noted before, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the game (SH4 Gold Edition) and it works great and I don’t need the disk anymore to play.

I have also just deleted the JSGME. I couldn’t find any uninstall, nor was it in my add or remove program file to uninstall it there. Then I reinstalled the JSGME into the new SH4.

For the MODS, is this what I need to get the TMO onto the new game?

TMO 2 http://www.filefront.com/16649...rMaru_Overhaul_2.7z/

And I also want the regular, Run Silent, Run Deep. But with all of the links provided, I’m confused, as usual.

What do I actually need for just the RSRD, or do I need them all for the RSRD to work?

RSRDC_SH15_v550 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1416

RSRDC_TMO_v502 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1414

RSRDC_RFB_v575 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1415

RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1459

and do I need to add back the MOD for the TMO TW next prev Camera (I liked it!) or is it already in the TMO 2?

And also, (besides the fact that I hate being such a pain, you’ve all been great in helping me out…) In what order should I put the MODS I need to download into the JSGME for them to work? At the moment, The JSGME is empty of everything.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I hope everything I posted (links) is okay on the forum. I just wanted to be clear in what I was trying to explain. Thanks again.

Before you install any Mods click on the icon to JGSME and open the program. If you haven't already go to where it says Tasks in the middle of the box. Next click on Generate snapshot of game files. After you do this close out the program and then put your Mods in the mod folder.

This is what I think you will need -

TMO 2 is here. (http://www.filefront.com/16649247/TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2.7z/)

RSRD is here. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1414)

RSRD Patch is here. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1459)

Install in this order -
TMO
RSRD
RSRD Patch

Thanks so much for the help everyone. I really appreciate it.
I'll give this a try. Do I understand correctly I must have a game going and be saved in port to add the mods? Also, will these mods have outside camera? It is so cool to zoom in on the action.
Again, thanks
Jim

Hi Jim!! What it means is that you don't want to enable the mods, then boot up the game and load a save from in the middle of a patrol. Enable the mods, then boot up the game and if your in the middle of a patrol, you'll have to load a save from leaving or entering port, or start a new career. Happy Hunting Skipper!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Thanks, Skipper! I've put the Mods in and they appear to be working. I didn't have much time to spend on the game today, but I am looking forward to giving it a go. The Mods really make a big difference!

Thanks again for everyone's help in getting me up and running with the Gold Edition.

Thanks
Jim
