Not long ago, we had a favorite food thread. Well this is a thread about your favorite labor day weekend foods. What are they?
I try to have ribs (I buy a whole rack of pork ribs) with corn on the cob (cooked in it's husks with butter on the grill) and some sort of potato at least one day. If nice enough the whole weekend, I will do hamburgers another day and maybe bratworst the other.
Can't you tell I love to grill out?

Spoken like a true southerner, I have to work tommorow so I am cooking Labor day foods right now as we speak. Ribs, potatoes, and baked beans. It's just for me and my wife so I am not going crazy with it.

Just your typical cookout really, hotdogs, hamburgers, southern style BBQ, things of that nature, but all good none the less.

Whattaya expect Mac? I live outside Atlanta. LOL
I just wish I could buy Yeungling here in Georgia. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif It really gives my ribs a good taste. Instead, I have to smuggle it in from surrounding states. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Grits?

Grits is a type of maize porridge and a food common in the Southern United States, and southern Manchuria (where it is called gezi in Mandarin) consisting of coarsely ground corn, traditionally by a stone mill. The results are passed through screens, with the finer part being corn meal, and the coarser being grits. Many communities in the Southern U.S. had a gristmill until the mid-20th century, with families bringing their own corn to be ground, and the miller retaining a portion of the corn for his fee. Grits aficionados still prefer stone ground grits, although modern commercial milling companies prefer other methods.
The word "grits" comes from Old English grytta meaning a coarse meal of any kind. Yellow grits include the whole kernel, while white grits use hulled kernels. Grits are prepared by simply boiling into a porridge; normally they are boiled until enough water evaporates to leave them semi-solid. They are traditionally served at breakfast, but can also be used at any meal.
Hominy grits is another term for grits, but explicitly refers to grits made from nixtamalized corn, or hominy. These are the common grits sold in supermarkets outside of the Southern United States.
Grits are also similar to farina and polenta. Polenta is also known in parts of the U.S. as cornmeal mush, and is often sold precooked and chilled in sticks to be sliced and fried as a breakfast dish.

I like grits to some extent. They are good with butter and sugar on it. I also like Cream of Wheat (this being a food from further north but can be bought in the south too). I eat it the same was as grits.

Cream of Wheat, I used to eat that for breakfast all the time.
Anyway.
Sometimes we'll have a barebecue on Labor Day, with all of the old staples. Corn on the cob, ribs, hot dogs, cheeseburgers... Nothing out of the ordinary, really.
