Boing Boing has an article about NASA Monster-trucking on the moon in a newfangled $2 million buggy (http://www.boingboing.net/2008/03/29/monstertrucking-on-t.html) where a New York Times writer checked them out. Looks like there are 3 ways it can be configured.

There are 3 moon buggies already on the moon. They were used on the last 2 Apollo moon missions and allowed astronauts to travel 5 miles from the lunar lander and traveled some 56 miles combined. That allows for more exploration other than the area one could walk.

With the US trying to go back to the moon, do you think the astronauts should just explore the area around the lander or should they explore a larger area?

Large ****** Collider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_******_Collider)

Now this is the biggest waist of money i have ever heard of.

Why would we put billions into something learning more about small *** things we cant even see.We need to put that money into taking a bite out of world hunger,or each nation should use the money they put in to pay off their national debt.

@ WK,we have people living on the moon currently, couldnt they just use the buggies already up there instead of making another multi-million dollar one?

No one is on the moon right now. Even though the rovers are still there, batteries would be dead for everything, the cameras, the motor or whatever else. Not to mention that other mechanicals may not be serviceable. After all, they have been up there for some 30+ years.

Also, why go someplace you already explored? Remember, going back to the moon again will be exploration for future colonization and possibly mining (just a supposition on my part, but possible). NASA is also working on structures one can live in for more than a few days unlike the LEM.
