Yeah, I know, the first Smash-Up isn't out yet, and we still know very little about the game in retrospect, but I thought it would be fun to speculate a follow-up that is based on Turtles Forever.

For those that don't know, Turtles Forever is an epic animated film by 4Kids, sort of a last hurrah of the 2K3 series. It is a crossover between multiple TMNT universes, most significantly, 2K3 and the '80's MWS cartoon. It premiered at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con back in July, and should be on TV and DVD in the coming months.

Now, I haven't seen it myself, but I have heard some audio of the film and received detailed descriptions of certain events. The story is TMNT fan service at its highest level, and would make an amazing fighting game. Beware that the following paragraphs and lists will contain MAJOR spoilers, so avert thine eyes if you wish not to know some of the more intricate details of the film.

First off, there would be at least three different variations of the Turtles: Mirage, MWS, and 4Kids. They could work as alternate costumes of one another, and still function in story mode that way - for example, the 4Kids Turtles could be the default, but if you play as/against an MWS or Mirage Turtle in story mode, this costume would take its place. It would also be neat if the alternates had their voice actors from the film: for example, 4Kids Raph would be John Campbell/Frank Frankson/Greg Abbey/whatever, MWS Raph would be Sebastian Arcelus, and Mirage Raph, Sean Schemmel. This would also work for any other character that would appear as more than one version in the film, i.e., Splinter.

Secondly, I feel that two variations would actually serve better as separate characters than costumes: (FREAKIN' HUGE SPOILERS HERE) Ch'rell acquires a new uber-suit of armor, as he is wont to do, which would function differently than MWS Shredder or Mirage Shredder. Also, Hun is accidentally mutated into an anthropomorphic turtle (which I have not seen, but am told is totally badarse - he's sort of reminiscent of Slash, apparently), and I also feel this would make a better separate character than the standard, human Hun.

Finally, the characters that do not appear in the film (Fugitoid, Utrominator, Night Watcher, et cetera) could be either removed completely (this happens all the time in fighting games) or added as bonus unlockables that don't appear in story mode (which also happens frequently in fighting games, although not as often).

So, I believe this would be a worthy roster in regards to the film's cast:

<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>Donatello
<LI>Leonardo
<LI>Michelangelo
<LI>Raphael
<LI>Shredder
<LI>Splinter
<LI>Ch'rell
<LI>Casey Jones
<LI>April O'Neil
<LI>Krang
<LI>Bebop
<LI>Rocksteady
<LI>Foot Ninja/Soldier
<LI>Hun
<LI>Mutant Hun
<LI>Purple Dragon
<LI>Tokka
<LI>Rahzar
<LI>Karai
<LI>(Maybe one or more of the miscellaneous mutant Foot Ninja created at the same time as Tokka and Rahzar?)
[/list]

Depending on if the other mutated Foot Ninja are used, and/or the returning non-story characters, one could easily have a cast that exceeds the current Smash-Up cast.

So, what does the rest of the world think about this? Would Turtles Forever make an acceptable adaption to a Smash-Up sequel?

Honestly, that cast is more acceptable than the one we have right now. Throw in Leatherhead and Usagi and Id be completely satisfied. Although I couldn't care less about Hun being in the game.

Well Hun was a pretty important part of the plot, so he'd pretty much be a no-brainer in a Turtles Forever based game.

I hope Leatherhead is at least in the first Smash-Up.
