I just read this Hands-On at Gamespot:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/mystvendo***es/preview_6131070.html
And it said this:
You'll begin Myst V like every other Myst game, mysteriously materializing in a strange locale--this time, in a large, circular room. There is no prologue or introductory sequence, so, once again, you have to piece together everything from scratch.
So, at least now we know that the game begins in K'veer.
But I'm a little worried about the "there is no prologue or introductory sequence."
I was a bit upset to hear many months ago that Atrus would/may not appear in this game. But at the very LEAST, I thought, he would have to do a voice-over for the game's intro. He's done it in every single game (except Riven kinda, which was dialogue), EVEN URU which doesn't have him in it at all besides that intro bit.
So (I continued to think) it MUST have an Atrus intro... now this GameSpot article says different.
However, it could be interpreted a different way, because that quote above says "You'll begin Myst V like every other Myst game" and also says "so, once again" as if to say that Myst V begins in a style similar to all the other games. (Which would imply there is an intro). Maybe it's just saying that, like the other games, it doesn't explain who you are or why you're here???

I trust the Gamespot preview about as far as I can throw it because it's been contradicted by the PC Gamer preview and personal experience from Mysterium '05. If the video we saw at Mysterium is any indication, there will be an intro, as usual, in the form of Atrus talking http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. It'll probably be more along the lines of Myst and Uru's intros than, say, Riven, Exile, or Revelation's, but I'll bet dollars to donuts there'll be one.

Woo, thanks Alahmnat http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Yes I'd have expected a Myst/Uru style opening (ie. you wouldn't see video of Atrus himself).
Judging by that GS preview, its going to be a lot like Myst in reverse http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
So.. which donuts would they be?
"The donuts my friend? Did you bring the donuts? Where are the donuts!? Fool!"

Hmm I'd like to believe GameSpot didnt know what they're talking about, but now theres a new preview on GameSpy:
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/myst-v-end-of-ages/645874p1.html
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">With no story or introduction, our preview started us in a palatial room with carved columns and a bit of rubble, undoubtedly caused by the tremors that routinely strike the area. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
:/
I suppose we can assume moderately confidently that there is no intro in the PREVIEW that all the game sites have been getting - and that the REAL game will have one.
Please?

Although... "a bit of rubble, undoubtedly caused by the tremors that routinely strike the area." - doesnt sound like they know much about what they're talking about either!

Starting you off with no intro would kill me. I would hope for a voice over, but it seems as if atrus may make a physical appearence in the intro (Wouldn't it be cool if it was in K'veer!) I certainly hope so. C'mon, Rand...let's just see Atrus one last time...

I doubt he'll make a physical appearance in the intro. We know he's not going to be in the main game - the best we can hope for is an appearance at the end I think.

I don't know if that's really ignorance talking. I seem to remember one of the other previews saying something about a tremor effect being an unusual new addition to the gameplay. There could be something to it.
As for Atrus's voiceover, maybe we don't hear it in the intro, but closer to the end, when we're trying to make up our mind about what to do with the power of the tablet. Then we find our way to Myst Island and listen to Atrus's words of wisdom out of the past, clearing up the situation for us. Or, not. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

How many people are old enough to remember the film Earthquake in Sensurround, starring Charlton Heston? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
