View Full Version : Multiplayer performance, why is it so bad that you can't even play?

So there's starting to show up new ToE maps, and me and my brother really like big maps, so we were excited to find an impossible sized team map.

But we can't even play it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif The game uses up 1,4 Gb of memory when playing it and the AI can't even take its turn other than incredibly slow, the first player takes 3 minutes (literally) to even begin its turn, let alone finish it.

Its not our computers, we both have very high end machines (mine one of the best you can get), but the game is just atrocious...why can't Nival fix this?

On very large maps and beyond we've only been able to play around 10% of the maps we've tried to the end...the rest either goes out of sync, crashes (and can't recover, keeps crashing even when loading), the AI starts freezing up, etc. and even on those maps that work, the AI performance is horrible all around, very slow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

When is Nival going to fix multiplayer performance? The Campaign in ToE is excellent, but the multiplayer aspect sucks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

They have some heavy optimization ahead of them. I know what you mean, I have a top-end machine as well, but H5 can eat it up provided you use the largest maps or pan the camera in certain ways.

Why - I have no idea. Games that use double or triple the amount of polygons and more advanced shaders don't go below 70 frames, but H5 does it.

So I hope they optimize the performance, but I'm not getting my hopes up, knowing how lazy Nival can get.

I can only agree that the larger the map the more horrible the performance.

Impossible size map, forget it!

Extra Large is bad enough.

Try Isles of Terra, I remember that one running fairly well. Battlezone too. Maybe those aren't as big. The map Extra Large etc.

edit: If they haven't optimized already, why would they do so now?

Hamachi is a pretty nice program that owns the internet.

Hamachi is used for lan gaming over the internet and trust me i did this for heroes playing with my friend, and you notice a difference trust me with that. Computers move a noticable difference and actually possible to play with a friend and said, google it and use it. Just launch it (and host a hamachi server) connect to hamachi with your friend, go to lan game, create a game, and your friend will be able to see it.

Well, you could lock out the computers so it's just you and your human opponent.

well, My friends and I stopped playing Heroes after... I can't remember how many years of playing, JUST because ubisoft did that with OUR game. Multiplayer is not planned well in early stages of developement! Desync is problem from beta till now.

Don't know why Nival finally supports Impossible sized maps, yet they're unplayable...I guess thats what Impossible means "Impossible to play" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
