I have been reading the forum on the subject of plotting interception courses, and I would like to thank all of you who given examples!
After a lot of trial and error, I finally succeeded! I was patrolling off the coast of Borneo when the watch said there was a task force heading NNE. I plotted out there route, and laid in an intercept course.(I have done this before, but either I undershot the intercept course or I was initially off on laying out their course...amazing how a few miles can make a big difference!) I was within my 1k circle, sank to periscope depth, went silent and waited and waited. I was about to give up hope when the sonar man started telling me warships were closing fast. It was a friggin' armada....4carriers,2 escort carriers, and about a half dozen other warships plus 2 tankers. The night was perfect for hunting, stormy seas! The first destroyers passed by within at least 500 feet and did not even know I was there!
To make a long story short, I sank 1 medium tanker,1 Akitsu escort carrier and 1 heavy cruiser! Unfortunately, I was way too excited to think about snapping any SS's of the kills as I was diving to about 300 feet to escape any retribution. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
When the sonar man started telling me of torpedo impacts and units destroyed I was acting as if I had just scored the winning touchdown! (My wife came in to see what the fuss was all about and when I told her she just rolled her eyes and walked away! She just doesn't get it!HAHA!)
It was a great first patrol.....will be going back out tonight!

The wife (Admiral) will never 'get it' until she plays the game herself.
Happy hunting.

Good Job....Guess we should start a SH4 wifes club, a seperate forum here for them to complain..but as long as they have a place to yap, they'll soon be talking about shopping, Tambor's good looks, Wernher's brain and will leave us all alone.

Luckily, my wife is used to me and gaming....especially WW2 gaming! She just does not share my enthusiasm about sinking japanese shipping in the pacific! I guess that is just the old Navy sailor in me coming out!
As we used to say...."Haze gray and underway! Where underway is the only way! Where every day is a holiday and every meal a banquet!"

Great story, GJ. Experiences like that do literally put you on the edge of your seat!

It reminds me of a similar situation when I spent nearly four hours of game time to perform an end-around and position myself in a convoy's path. There were heavy escorts, so I had to go deep as soon as I loose the torps. It was all manual targeting - with the TDC helping, of course. Only had time to target one cargo ship, and since I had external vision turned off, I never got to see the results. I only had the sonarman's word to confirm the hits. When the hits did come I cheered each one and pumped my fists in the air! Two hits, one dud, and a miss, with a two degree spread between each torp, at around 1200 yards.

Spent the next two hours of game time sneaking away from the scene. Shook up a couple of times by near misses from DCs, but no damage. Sneaked away at 1/3, then later at 2/3, and 245 ft.

It was great.

Come on Tambor. He's got to man up in this situation and take one for the crew. Besides, it would make for a perfect Purple Heart situation. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I never thought that I would be so involved in a game like I am with this one! Great game and it truly puts you in the driver seat as it were!
As far as the little woman is concerned, I am not afraid of UFO's flying at me, no, just her pulling the plug on the computer!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Well, gentleman, I stand corrected about the little woman throwing things.....she came in to see what I was up to and watched as I showed her the rought seas I was in....she left, came back with a small glass of water mixed with salt and threw it in my face and said, "There, now you are truly back at sea with the U.S. Navy! Anchors Aweigh!" And she ran from the room with me in hot pursuit! Needless to say, the sub commander got lucky! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
Wink, Wink, nudge, nudge, Say no more! HAHAHA!
After, I returned to the game, ran across a small convoy with one troop ship and two escorts, sank the lead DD and the troopship and sat in about 150 ft of water and played dead while the other DD sat motionleass for 45 minutes of real game time listening for me before it gave up and left! I will try to post some SS's later today!

Sad Sad,,,it was all good until you chased her. Real Skippers never chase women in the middle of patrol. My wife has to wait until I'm on shore leave...simply the game is off.

She use to come prancing by her cute nities late Friday night while I'm in the middle of battle....She learned I'm true to my ship.

Sad Sad.....

Weak...weak....but alas, sometimes when the nities get really cute, even I fail...but I just pause the game and hurry.

Course mine hasn't thrown salt water on me. Reminds me of the time years ago we went to some outdoor concert and my wife had her bikini on, some guy walked by and said to her, "baby, I would drink your bath water." I told her to put her hand in my beer then threw it on him...yea,it got ugly.

Don't feel too bad MWolfe1963, I myself will be seeing 50 in about 3 years! Of course the one thing about not having children around anymore is that all the focus will be on you! I won't be able to tell my wife when she ask's what's going on that the kids were messing around with that, ask them!HAHAHAHA!
