Hi folks, my first post is a cry for help. I just pick up the game in the "going cheap" barrel at my local store. I played & loved the original Far Cry so this was a must buy. However I'm getting just a blank screen at start up. Sound is fine but no pics. I believe this is a common problem but all the fixes I have seen refer to Vista. I'm running XP Home SP3. I have updated my video drivers to the latest version but still no joy. The card is an ATI Radeon X1050. Perhaps it's not good enough to run the game. Can anyone advise me please.
Thanks.

I'm afraid that your graphic card is not up to par to play FC2. In fact you may need a LOT more beef in your intire computer to run FC2 if you want to run it full out.
This is your graphic cards specs and plain no good for FC2 and evidently no good for most games as I've high lighted a passage from the specs. "Graphics Card Performance This card's graphics processor and memory mean that it is not recommended for most games, but it will still be fine for office applications and other normal computing tasks. Time to go shopping if you want to play FC2 as it ( and a lot more games now ) is a LOT bigger than its little brother "FarCry".
Good luck. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Any recommendations on what to buy?

If your a PC gamer sooner or later you'll want to play these bigger games of today and most of them now requires a pretty much high end PC. Also make sure you don't get a PCI/AGP 8X motherboard ( which yours has ) instead the newer ones are PCIe, also you would be better off with a duo or quad processor ( I'm sure yours is a single processor ). Would also be better if you had a tall full tower case as the newer graphic cards are getting HUGH literly and unless you have a tall gameing tower you will only have room to install your large graphic card by cutting away some of the Hard Drive cage. I'm serious about that as even though I have a tall tower ( Alienware ) I did not have much room left after installing a BFG GF GTX 260 OC 896MB graphic card ( had about 1/2 inch left before the Hard Drive cage ).
link below shows the card at "TigerDirect"
http://www.tigerdirect.com/app...o=4683600&CatId=3585 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4683600&CatId=3585)
This card weighs in at a whopping 1 1/2 lbs, is 10.5" long, 3.3/4" wide, 1 1/2" high and definatley takes two slots, one PCIe and a PCI slot below it. ( dosn't connect to PCI slot below, just takes up the space ).
Useing this card with a AMD quad processor and 3 1/2 Gigs Ram makes FC2 act like a ***** cat.
Word of caution with this card, you Must have a lot of moving air as mine reaches 50/60 C. (limit is 105C.) I do not have any cards below said graphic card ( am useing on board sound which is GREAT ) so there is over 3 inches to the bottom of the case and about 1 1/2 feet front to back on the case floor of air space. Also have five 80mm fans moving air ( not counting graphic card fan, processor fan and 680 watt power supply fan )
This is what I run FC2 at:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/oleman/RecentstatsFC2asof4-18-2010.jpg
Anyhow FC2 needs a lot of PC muscle to really injoy it. Although you can run it with less power at low settings but it will seem pretty dull compared to the highest settings
Good luck to you and enjoy FC2 when you get your PC straightened out. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
EDIT: P.S. I am running XP Home, some people have probs running Win7, might want to check that out more thoroughly.
