17 here. I'm surprised no one under 16 yet. I guess it involves too much for them. They are sticking to the simple games.

I'm 32 but I've loved Simulations since I got my first computer even the early space ones where you looked out of the cockpit and jumped from space sector to space sector.

I think my first proper Sim was ACE on the commodore 64 and that was awesome. It had ground missions, anti shipping misions, heat seeking missles, rockets etc. Graphics were laughable by todays standards but for the time were great. I used to play that game for hours. Been into Sims for ages although I only really cottoned ontop sub sims with SHII to I'm pretty new to the genre. Loving it ever since though.

hehe i had that!! it was awesome, and of course AceII, it was a blast (excuse pun) to play against friends. Tactical Stealth fighter on the Commodore64 was my first decent sim, boy those where the days, huge manuals, keyboard overlay cards... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Hey cool I thought nobody would remeber. "Top Gun" came out the same year I think. I remeber being 13 or something and getting into the cinema and then charging home to play ACE till the small hours.

I also remeber that you couldn't hit SAMs with the ground attack rockets you have to use the gun. What a great game.

There are adults who act like egoistic children and there are children who are adults, in my view of the world age is irrelevant.

man, I dont even want to think about it. I'm not too far removed from that, and it will be here before i know it. Tell me, why does time go so much faster now? Seems like it took forever to get to 20, then 30 showed up pretty quick, but man, 40 is here in a the wink of an eye. Please tell me it slows down again.

32. I first cut my teeth on Sub sims with Silent Service on Nintendo back in the day. Never had my own PC until last year so I never got into all these Sub sims I keep hearing about. I had been playing Combat Flight Sim WWII European theater (big WWII buff). I got to say this sim is my dream come true. I always hoped a sim would come out that played like the movie Das Boot and this is the answer to my prayers. Theres something about the German U-Boot campain that strikes a nerve, judging by this forum I see I'm far from alone. To all my fellow Kriegesmarine Captians out there; Good Hunting. See you out in the puddle.

Just hit 30 in December. Talk about the realization that you're not a kid anymore... physically speaking. Mentally things don't really change.

Been gaming since I obtained the abilily to hold a controller and use a keyboard.
Atari
Commodore 64
Commodore 128
Nintendo
Nintendo 64
Super Nintendo
PS1
PS2
PC

Have always loved sims and this is by far the best one developed to date. Do any of you "Old Timers" remember the game "Destroyer" for the Commodore 64?? Great WWII Destroyer sim set in the Pacific! Played that game for countless pre-pubescent hours on end.

Very interesting poll. Proof of how a SIM can capture such a broad audience.

I used to think that "playing games" was immature and so didn't spout off about how much I enjoyed them. The difference now is, I could care less what the world thinks, I love 'em...I play 'em End of story. The new attitude came with http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif "maturaty". I told my wife on the day we met that I play with toys (Model railroad and R/C) and do goofy childish things a lot. She said my "youthfulness" was what attracted her to me most, this coming from a very attractive professional woman who.....enjoys racing dragsters http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Like anything else, all in moderation....which isn't easy with SHIII.

I have no intention on abandoning my gaming hobby / past time

35 years young.

P.S. I loved the post by the guy that said he didn't know how he found the time to work. That truely is a comment from a guy that has things figured out. Good on ya. I am looking forward to retirement. Maybe I'll become old and crotchety some day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif, but until then....game on.

42, and been doing subsims since the days of C-64 being the only viable/affordable "gaming" computer out there. In fact, very first computer game for me was Silent Service by Microprose. Been hooked into almost every subsim since, with few exceptions.

KristofVonAsKik
06-03-2005, 02:38 PM
MicroProse used to be the Don Juan of sim developers. They are the same people who developed "Destroyer" that I mentioned earlier. Had Silent Service too...kicked ***. Remember the days of black 4.5" floppy discs that you had to be careful not to handle to rough, or have a static charge built up on you or it would erase? Yeah, those were the days...good times. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
