Is Rocksmith coming out for Mac?

There are no current plans for Mac but you can probably run it in that thingy that lets you run Windows. Sorry, don't have a Mac so i forget what it's called.

I think it's called "boot camp"

The chance of Ubisoft releasing a Mac version is VERY slim. They have a very poor track record of supporting the Mac. When it is released, it should run under bootcamp since the iMacs have an intel processor. I would not be surprised if it runs under Parallels too BUT since that is something of an emulation, I would expect a LAG. I too wish they would come out with a Mac version since that is my platform of choice.

I thought I read somewhere that eventually there are plans for Mac but from this forum looks like that's a no go. Bummer. I was ready to put money up front to pre-order. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Just run bootcamp on your mac. Get a old copy of xp and your all set to run the software. The dev team is small and I dont see them building a mac version, when it is just as easy to use bootcamp to run it.

I have macbook pro laptop and 99% of the time I am using xp via bootcamp.

It's still a little iffy on coming out for PC, given the fact that they've taken down PC references from Rocksmith's marketing info on the site - though on Facebook the dev team has set a new target of May of 2012 for PC release. I don't think I'd hold my breath for Mac (at least in the next year or two).

Have they mentioned any requirements for PC? I'm wondering if I would need to upgrade my system in addition to running boot camp.

i would seriously doubt mac. i still have high hopes for pc tho. just think pc wont be pushed untill they have the console bugs worked out.

They may or may not eventually come to PC like they promise. I'm waiting to see.

At least your Mac can run Windows as a dual-boot second choice in Boot Camp.

Apple won't license OS X at all for my home built PC. I really miss Garage Band. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Rocksmith site says:

Introducing the next stage in the evolution of the guitar game. Rocksmith™, the first and only game where you can plug ANY real guitar into your PC/MAC, Xbox 360® or PlayStation®3 system, and actually learn while you play.
.
Now I would read that as meaning I can install it on a Mac....
But I dont see a Mac option when purchasing.
So I am I right in thinking this will only run on a Mac running XP or whatever in Bootcamp.
Now, thats OK but I think it should be made clearer to start with.
Anyone from Ubisoft willing to comment?

yes I know, so why does the Rocksmith web site say "plug any real guitar into your pc/mac" ... its misleading.
surely it should be "plug any real guitar into your pc/mac* (* - Mac will require Bootcamp and a valid Windows install) or whatever...

I bought RockSmith as it said PC/Mac on the disc case advertised.

The one that arrived mail order said PC DVD-ROM. Everyone denies a Mac product existing although it was printed on the front of the product and I sent them a screen shot of it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried BootCamp and VMWare fusion version 5 with windows 7 to use it but the internal graphic card of a MacBook Pro 2012 model is not suitable for high definition gaming and it iust kept crashing.

I wasted, days and days on technical support and apparently even if I bought a new graphics card unscrewed the back of the MacBook and installed it it would "probably" still not work

Did you install the latest support package for Bootcamp? My Mac Pro is from 2008 and it runs Rocksmith fine.

Before you totally give up try looking around these forums. I know there are people running RS with bootcamp or something else. I don't know about macs but I'm sure it's working for people.

You got it running with Windows 8?? Dangit, I installed Win 8 on my MBP and RS is just not working -- it crashes out at the stage when I'm supposed to do my first soundcheck. Any thoughts as to where/how I can ensure my drivers are up to date? Having said that, one further problem is that my MBP is still running Snow Leopard; are you already on Lion, or Mountain Lion?

I also am able to run RS from bootcamp (Mountain Lion - windows 7).

Been a while since I installed bootcamp, but I believe the drivers come from the "Windows Support Software" DVD you create when running the "Boot Camp Assisant" from the Mac OS. see step 4 of this manual http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

Drivers could very well be your problem - I don't think Windows 8 is officially supported with boot camp and Snow Leopard, although I do see it can be done.

LOL, lest we not forget about the former Jaguar, Panther, and Tiger OSes. I think they may have finally run out of wildcat themed OS names.

My thinking is that it almost certainly is the drivers, just that because I haven't had to troubleshoot WIntel PCs in a long time, I'm a bit clueless now about what drivers to check and where to get the updates for them. So far I've done two manually (one for graphics card, one for audio), but that hasn't resolved the problem. Oh well, perhaps the easiest is a complete wipe and reinstall first anyway.

I would try updating bootcamp on the Mac side either via software update or directly from Apple http://support.apple.com/downloads/#bootcamp and then running the Boot Camp Assistant application to recreate the windows support software CD. Use that CD on the Windows side to update the bootcamp (video, audio, etc.) drivers

I also read somewhere that installing Apple's 'Software Update for Windows' on your Windows 8 installation would also update the Bootcamp drivers.

But you are probably right though, complelely wiping out the bootcamp partition and starting over may actually be the easiest thing to do. RS is working suprisingly well for me on my MBP circa 2009 bootcamp/windows 7 installation. Good luck, let us know if you get it to work!

That would be worth a shot too. I suspect that the base Snow Leopard OS doesn't have the proper Windows 8 drivers. I have Mountain Lion on my MBP. I may try to install a Windows 8 partition on it this weekend and see if RS works.

When setting up bootcamp, the current drivers are download from apple, and then stored on whatever USB stick you used, those bootcamp drivers are then run after windows 8 is installed.

Thanks for the various ideas. I can't stick in a Snow Leopard OS disc since it was the OS already pre-installed so I don't have one at all.

I seem to recall a disconnect between Snow Leopard and Lion/Mountain Lion in so far as Boot Camp was concerned, i.e. on Lion/ML, Boot Camp is 4.0, which does not update on a Snow Leopard or older Mac, possibly because Lion no longer supports Rosetta. That being the case, perhaps I should 'try' to install Boot Camp on my newer iMac, which came with Lion, then use that driver disc on my MBP?

Hopefully I can find some time to try out your suggestions. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress, if any: perhaps there's someone else out there in the same situation as me and equally tearing his/her hair out...

1. Upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion it's $19.99 well spent. Apple is one of the first to figure out that pricing software right is the best anti-piracy method. BTW the Appstore install is just a wrapper around the DMG file that you can burn on either a USB stick or a DVD. So you will have the install disc from that point on. And there are no serials or any other BS to worry about.
2. Redo Bootcamp partition and install Windows. I recommend Windows 7 because humans can actually get stuff done in 7. In 8 I just keep clicking on stuff and going in circles without getting anywhere.
3. My Macbook Pro (2012 retina) has the Nvidia chipset. Nvidia drivers install fine on it so if that's what you have use the latest Nvidia drivers. If you have just the Intel video chipset I have no idea if Rocksmith will work. It works really well with the Nvidia stuff.
4. You need a USB stick for the BootCamp support drivers for Windows. No need for actual system disc.

My macbook air has the intel 3000 HD graphics (newer machines have the 4000). Rocksmith is ok on it. Havent tested it with multiplayer. I suspect that would tax it a fair bit.

Check the virtual machine and make sure that the USB port is available to Windows. Here's a quick link (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=ex&bbid=TSEBB_1297203574863&url=&stateId=1%200%20764566141&dialogID=764552280&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&externalId=1027964&sliceId=2&rfId=) and some info. Rock on.

Troubleshooting USB device connection and functionality in a Fusion virtual machine (1027964)

Symptoms
The USB device does not appear in the list of USB devices
The USB device connects to the virtual machine, then disconnects
The USB device stops working in a virtual machine
The USB device behaves erratically in a virtual machine
The USB device connects to the virtual machine, but is not detected by Windows or a third-party application
Purpose
This article provides the general steps to troubleshoot USB devices in Fusion virtual machines. The listed steps are appropriate for all cases, and the articles in the Additional Information section provide resolutions for specific cases.

For general instructions for connecting a USB device to a Fusion virtual machine, see Working with printers, disks, and other devices in VMware Fusion (1014523).
Resolution
Each step below provides instructions and a link to a document, for performing the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and to identify the proper resolution. They are also ordered in the most appropriate sequence to minimize data loss. After completing each step, try connecting/using the device again. Work through each troubleshooting step in order, and do not skip a step.

Note: Fusion 4.1 resolves many USB connection issues. If you are running Fusion 4.0, upgrade to the latest version of Fusion. For more information on upgrading Fusion, see Uninstalling, reinstalling, and upgrading VMware Fusion (1014529).

To troubleshoot issues with a USB device:

If you have upgraded to OS X Lion (10.7), ensure that the permissions on your root directory are correct. For more information, see USB devices fail after upgrading to Mac OS X Lion (10.7) (2004687).

If you are using Fusion 4, and see error code 4, repair the USB arbitrator service. For more information, see Attaching a USB device to a virtual machine in Fusion 4.x fails with an error code 4 (2007368)

Make sure your device is supported and connected properly. Follow the instructions in Apple Knowledge Base article HT1151.

Note: The preceding link was correct as of September 16, 2012. If you find the link is broken, provide feedback and a VMware employee will update the link.

If the device is plugged into a hub, unplug it from the hub and plug it directly into the Mac.

Note: If the step does not resolve the issue, but a later step does, try using the hub again.

Unplug all USB devices from your Mac, including any keyboards or mouse, and plug the device into the Mac again.

Note: If the step does not resolve the issue, but a later step does, try plugging the other devices into the Mac again. The issue may persist if the problematic device is not the first USB device plugged in to the Mac.

Turn off the device using the on/off switch. Shutdown your Mac. Turn on the device again, if possible. Turn your Mac back on.

Note: Ensure to shut your Mac down and turn it on again even if your device does not have a power switch.

Re-install VMware Tools in the virtual machine. For more information, see Overview of VMware Tools for VMware Fusion (1022048).

Ensure that the necessary drivers are installed in Windows. For more information, see A connected USB storage device is not displayed in a Windows virtual machine (1004584).

Remove and re-add the USB Controller from the virtual machine. For more information, see the Fusion Help topics Remove the USB Controller and Add the USB Controller.

Determine whether the USB device needs extra configuration. For more information, see Troubleshooting USB devices using USB quirks in Fusion (1025256).

If your device does not appear in Fusion's list, modify your .vmx settings to display all devices detected. For more information, see Connecting a second mouse or keyboard directly to a Fusion virtual machine (1003418).

If your virtual machine detects your USB ports as low-speed ports, ensure that USB 2.0 support is enabled in the virtual machine settings. To enable USB 2.0 support, go to Virtual Machine > Settings, select USB & Bluetooth, expand Advanced USB options, and select Enable USB 2.0 support.

Ensure your USB ports are in working order by running Apple Hardware Test. For more information, see:

MacBook Airs – Apple Knowledge Base article HT2644
All other Macs – Apple Knowledge Base article HT1509

Reset your Mac's PRAM. For more information, see Apple Knowledge Base article HT1379
Note: The preceding links were correct as of September 16, 2012. If you find a link is broken, provide feedback and a VMware employee will update the link.

If the issue continues to exist even after trying these troubleshooting steps:

Open your .vmx file using a text editor. For more information, see Editing the .vmx file for your VMware Fusion virtual machine (1014782).
Add this line to the file:

usb.analyzer.enable = "TRUE"

In Fusion 4.x and earlier, select Preferences from the Fusion menu and then select the Enable debugging checks option.

In Fusion 5.x, ensure that the virtual machine is shutdown, go to Settings > Advanced, and set Troubleshooting to Hang/Crash.

Quit Fusion.
Reopen Fusion and power on your virtual machine.
Connect the USB device to your virtual machine.
Collect the VMware support information. For more information, see Collecting diagnostic information for VMware Fusion (1003894).
File a support request with VMware Support and quote this Knowledge Base article ID (1027964) in the problem description. Attach the support information you collected to the Support Request. For more information, see How to Submit a Support Request.
After collecting the support information, go to VMware Fusion > Preferences and deselect Enable debugging checks (Fusion 4.x) or go to Settings > Advanced and set Troubleshooting to None.

Additional Information
