View Full Version : Does any normal human beings actually play this game?

Spies VS Mercs that is.
I've found that when I haven't got 4 people online to play, the only way me and my friend can get a game is by playing squad matches.
Now the standard of people playing squad matches quite simply scares me. Do these people actually do anything other than play Splinter Cell? the game's only been out for about 2 weeks and already people know the new maps inside out and back to front. Do they ever leave the house?
Also I've noticed a trend arising that people only play Warehouse, Aquarius and Club House. Pretty dull to be honest, do people not get tired of these maps? There's a whole load more to play, but they seem to want to stay on the maps that they know so well so they can win some more of their beloved but also meaningless points.
Still, excellent game that Ubi have done a stella job with. Just a shame that us normal folk don't stand a chance against the uber nerds online.
Oh one last thing, any chance of Cinema and Hospital returning as downloadable content?
I'm still confused as to Ubi's thinking behind leaving Warehouse in the game. Probably the worst level from Pandorra, only thin going for it in Chaos Theory is there's no more of that cursed double head jumping.

You'd think that those über-nerds have nothing better to do - well, you're right (not that I am one). I know some, and it is sometimes very sad to see them playing Xbox + PC over Live and Internet well into the night and early morning. Not necessarily Splinter Cell, other games too. I often wonder what the hell it says on their CVs - "Play games". Nothing else? Nope.

I usually only play with people that I know because they have lives as well and can only devote so much time to playing. This way we're all nearly equal when it comes to map knowledge. I also don't have to worry about people exploiting glitches and stuff.

The problem is that I have only one mate to play with. We play every once or twice a week, but it is SOOO hard to find decent players. Either it is a uber-spy who refuses to be a merc and whips our butts like nothing or it's a whining little kid who accuses us of cheating when we snipe him with EM on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.
We've been mercs like 75% of time 'cause we're always the ones who change teams in order to please our opponents. We just want to play this frigging game, not to bicker about whos gonna be spy. We always keep Revenge on, because then we have at least a little change to explore the spy side of this game, but most of the time one if not both spys quit after the first round.
The problem with some of these uber-nerds you guys are talking about is that they always insist to play as spies and tell us that we "have to earn the right to be spies" (we were the host??) and after hard and tight match we come out as winners and they quit... speak about earning.
So if anyone who has family and life outside SC wants to play fair and decent enemy (not to mention we have a great broadband, so no lag to speak of) , pleas add us to your Friend list

I swear all of the time when I get my butt handed to me. It makes me feel better. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif I play with 3 other people and we're all 31 to 40 y/o.
We have a standing agreement that we switch sides after each round and spies can choose a different map if they want, but usually we play as both spies and mercs on each map, then switch maps.
Where do you live?

I wont lie, I play CT every night from about 10pm to 1am. Of course thats AFTER I get off work, eat with and appease my significant other, and take my dog for a walk. The people that are usually insane at this game are much younger than the crowd posting in this thread. I too am in my twenties and although I play when I can, i still occassionally get beat by a 12 year old. But thats the thing....hes 12, he doesnt do anything else! There are kids out there who literally only get off when they go to school. Then they come home, fake sick to get out of soccer practice, and log back online for 8 hours. There are plenty of mature people out there to play with, its just hard to find them because you have to sift through all the kids. Im very competitive by nature, but I dont worry about losing to these people online. If we spent as much time playing this game as they did. Then we would be absurdly good too. Of course thats at the expense of having a life.....
I actually really like aqaurius and club house. Very cool maps with alot of atmosphere.

I like them both too. They have a very distinct feeling compared to the other maps. Silo and station just seem like dark rooms and tunnels too me. Not that they arent good maps, but they just arent as visually impressive and modern. I Like the orphanage too, seesms like the perfect spy map because its big and has lots of dark places to hide. Unfortunately I never get to play it becasue I cant seem to fill up a room on that map. Factory is more secure than the pentagon and may be the biggest map in the game. Too bad nobody plays that one either.....

Libertine, I'll ad your GT when I get home. I think we're about 7-8 hours different (I'm EST), but I'm up for it if we can get in some games. If nothing else, you can always shoot me an invite if you see me online at some crazy hour. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
P.S. I'm only moderately good so don't beat on me if we do play.

Hey guys.
I'm not an 'oober nerd', but I am a huge fan of this game so i play it quite often. One thing I am looking for right now is a good group of people to play with. I only have one friend I know that I play with. More than winning I just want to have fun, and play with people who are laid back for the most part.
As far as the maps go. There are a lot of pointless maps, silo I think is one of the worst maps, also orphange while big and all, it just seems poorly designed. I just don't like the idea that the spies have to go through the 'sniping grounds' in order to get into the level and theres really no other way in but from the front. Overall though I'm open to play any map, I also like playing mercs and spies.
If you guys want to add me my gamertag is Evolution. When you send the friend request add a voice message saying you're from the forums and i'll accept. (I get a lot of friend requests). I'd love to play with you guys though.

i hate little kids! all they do in life is play video games, then when i play them, they call me *** and noob. i have absolutly no problem losing, as i am quite used to it, but when little kids start insulting me over a stupid game that won't matter, i just want to kill somebody http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
And then in coop (if i can ever get into a game, or play one out) the little (put profanity here) yell at me cause i didn't do it their way, then call me *** and noob. i let you people know that i beat solo in two days ( not nonstop mind you) so don't call me noob!

I know! When I played online at my friend's house, it was ridiculous! The guys knew the maps so well that I just wanted to die, and everytime I respawned I'd find a grenade waiting for me! If I had my own account I'd probably be rated -1, but still, I wish that these people would get a life and stop kicking me around every time I try...

The people that are saying "people have no lives," sound like their crying because they arent good at this game. Ive played this game for a week and i picked up all the levels, us "uber kids" are sry your not good, if u want practice play non ranked. Otherwise its pointless to try to make fun of people who actually do play this game and are good. Because by saying that all the good people have "no lives", ur basically trying to make fun of anyone better then you.
Im a normal Human being that actually does play this game, I can put in a good 30 hours a week and still play lacrosse and go to school and do homework. But if I have to work I can only play like 20 hours a week. Gamer tag is Jfish360

You see I knew I'd get a few answers like that.
I have no problem loosing, infact I'm quite happy to loose as long as I have an enjoyable game.
Though when I don't have 4 friends online the only way I seem to be able to find a game or get people to join is by playing squad matches. It seems to me that 95% of the people on these types of matches are people who sit on the game all day learning the levels better than they know their own mothers, they also tend to only play one level so you really have next to no chance against them.
I don't have time to sit on my Xbox all day everyday. I just want to play some normal people who don't take the game too seriously, don't care about ranking and don't mind playing mercenaries every now and then on a level they may not have played much and don't know inside out.
Is that too much to ask?

A pretty pompous and ignorant response. And Im sorry pal, but 30 hours a week on a video game is not "Normal". I also dont recall anyone making fun of kids in this thread. If you read the entire post(difficult I know) then youd see that hes simply commenting on the fact that its tough for someone who has REAL RESPONSIBILITIES to play against people who do nothing else. It wasnt rude, nor was it your que to come in here and try to play keyboard tough guy. Thats okay, youll understand when youre a big boy.

Yeah this game seems to have the laidback players and then the ultra hardcore players. not much of a middle ground with SC online!! but playing those really tough guys is a good way to get better, its how i got really good at PT online.
i am pretty laidback myself, so put me on your friends list monkey punch my tag is oxTITANxo , i play around 10pm - 1am west coast time!(almost every nite)! hope to see u online bro!!

To be honest, I don't really give a **** whether you play the game for 10 hours a week or 10 hours a day. All I want is somebody who isn't a whiny 12 year old that complains and/or quits whenever its their turn to be merc.
I don't get at all why so many people hate being a merc. Merc is fun for me, funner than spy in many, MANY instances. I like both sides equally, but I hate the children that think they've got the constitutional right to be a spy every single time. At least in a game like Halo 2 you don't have to bicker over who gets to be on which team and whatnot, although IMO SvM is a bit more interesting and, at times, more fun than Halo 2's multiplayer (I like both games equally, unlike the fanboys who argue on forums over which one is better).
I, myself am a casual gamer; I estimate I log at most 10 or 12 hours a week on Xbox. I have other hobbies as well, such as walking, writing and even (gasp!) reading. Some of you should try picking up a book sometime; contrary to popular belief, learning can be fun.
Anyway, I don't play in squads - I'm much more content to simply play a game for an hour or so then take a break. I don't really harbor any grudge against people who play the game a lot...if that's how they choose to spend their time, then more power to them.
GT is Lord Kruton, for those who are interested.

When you do this you begin to memorize certain things. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with your post. Disagreeing with someone is not a problem, but being rude is. Making obnoxious comments to other forum members without provocation is unnecessary and an invitation for a verbal beating. Its completely uncalled for. What most of us are trying to say is basically that its hard for people who dont play often, to play with epople who play all the time. I now know all the maps too, and I play for about 3 hours every night with my partner(duration varies). In general the person who plays more is going to be better, and those people who dont have the time would like to find a game with mature and respectful players who do not say stupid obnoxious comments and act childish if they win. Theres nothing worse than a punk kid whos got a big mouth when hes behind his T.V. Especially when you know that if he was standing in front of you he would run the other way.

That's the reason I generally play with the same group of people- we've gamed together for years (not a clan/squad/whatever, just friends), and we know how to be fair and make the game enjoyable for all the participants. If someone comes in new to a game we've been playing a while, we don't mop the floor with them- there's no fun or honor in that. Doing that is nothing more than stroking an overinflated ego- and anyone getting an ego boost off a videogame is in dire need of some blue skies and fresh air.
I was bored last night and tried the rare public game with a guy named "Antianticamper" (cool guy too- I'd partner with him again) on Clubhouse, and these two clanners came in and made sure the game was under no threat of becoming fun. They weren't rude luckily...But when the spies can be disabling their first objective in less than 15 seconds (seriously, WTF?)after the round begins- that's not much fun to me. The game degrades to almost an almost pre-scripted form.
Ghost_Leader_1
04-15-2005, 07:26 AM
I hate that. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I don't play the game to see how fast I can complete the objectives. A lot of times I just run around the map, trip sensors to watch teh mercs come running, and laugh. We usually set a 30 minute time limit and I use all 30. I use every gadget I have and wish that I had more. THe other thing is I love wallmines as a merc. Nothing better than planting one, and just watching for a spy to hit it and get blown into the air. I'd much rather play for fun, ratherthan competition, but that's just me. I choose to be competative in other arenas, and this isn't one of them. Not because I'm not a good or marginal player, but because I think it's supposed to be fun, and that's what's fun for me.

I too play for fun, although i try and play to win. Whats fun for me is trying to be completely stealthy. If I die in a game then Ive failed and I will just wreak havoc on the mercs. Its a challenge to be totally stealth, especially when the CamNet is being used. Its also a hell of alot of fun to see if you can sneak up behind a merc, or position yourself behind him for the grab without him ever knowing.

I don't like that way some of you people have been criticising kids and children. Not all of kids are moody and moany - some of you are stereotyping and i really hate it when people do that. Like one of you said "i just don't wanna play with some winy 12 year old" something like that - not all 12 year olds are winy - not all kids are immature!!

i see and understand most of your points being made here fellas. And the most interesting thing of all is that if you had noticed, the ones who have no life and play this game all the time are the ones who have chosen not to respond to the thread. Otherwise you would get the same people responding to the thread in some form or another feeling as though they had to add something.
