View Full Version : Is this lean bug common, and is there a fix for it?

Ever since I can remember playing this game, there is a very annoying glitch when leaning.
You can lean right while crouching, and strafe left and right while in that postion, but when you lean left while crouching, you can only strafe right.
What pisses me most about this, is when you're crouched and leaning left around a corner, and need to nudge left a bit to peek further around it, you have to straighten up, move left, then go back to lean, and hope you're not too exposed.
Please tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this, and is there a fix for it?
Sometimes I run across a doorway risking possible detection and gunfire to set up in a right lean position on the other side of it.

Maybe its because Jack Carver is right handed.

I know that with some PS/2 keyboards you can't lean right and strafe right at the same time, and the same with left. With a usb keyboard you can, though. Maybe it's how your keyboard is reacting to you pressing too many keys at the same time.
I have noticed that when you lean right, you do lean more than when you lean left. Then again, I don't lean very often. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I go through keyboards quicker than anyone probably, including DocSeal (loved his video).
I have had this problem with every keyboard I've used, PS2 or USB. The one I'm currently using is a Logitech Navigator USB.
I've always felt this is a bug that was never patched. Jack being right handed should not mean he is limited to strafing one way while crouched and leaning left. Think about it, when both hands are on a weapon, and you're in that position, you're only using your legs to move, it shouldn't matter if he's left or right handed.
He tosses all the grenades left handed, to a degree he has ambidexterity.

I tried doing it today, and it worked for me. I have really no clue as to why it's not working for you. :| Patched lately?

I've had this problem reguardless of patch version or keyborad used since buying the game though, and I got it well over a year ago.
Are you sure you're both crouched AND leaning when trying it?

Sorry for my half hearted attempt at humor.
I just tried strafing while leaning crouched and was able to smoothly strafe both directions while leaning either way. It must be your keyboard.
I have a USB keyboard connected to the PS2 port via an adapter.

Six_Gun, check both hands to make sure you are not missing any fingers.

If so, who do you have work the mouse for you? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I've heard of bad aim, but that's ridiculous! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

OK, I just tried binding the crouch key back to C, and found that it works with the default key as the crouch key.
I can strafe left and right while crouched whether leaning left or right. The only problem is, I find it's way too clumsy to do using that key.
Can anyone here tell me if they can strafe left while crouched and leaning left if the crouch key is bound to L Shift?
One other thing, I noticed in the Game Config file that the crouch move is not labeled as "crouch", but rather MOVEMODE.
After discovering this I find it unlikely to be my keyboard. There is an alternate function listed in front of the A key (All), but I can use L Shift+E+A or D without a problem, so I doubt using the A key and L Shift while using another key has anything to do with it.

I use right ctrl for crouch and right alt key for toggle crouch. Also using arrow keys for movement.

I use Left Control to crouch and WASD to move. I have the same problem as Six_Gun. Well for me it's not a problem because I find it easier to 'unlean', move a bit and then lean again because I'm using the same fingers for these keys... Anyways I have a M$ wireless keyboard. I guess it depends on the keyboard hardware whether this works or not.

Thanks for the replies guys. Using the arrow keys for movement would not work well for me. I use a pullout tray, and that would put my KB and mouse hands too close together, leaving me feel cramped and less relaxed.
I just looked at my Rescue video again, which I made with a previous KB (Dell I think). I noticed in one spot where I'm just about to go down into the first big warehouse, I appeared to have crouched, leaned left, and then strafed left in that position to peek around the corner.
Since that was a different KB though, I may have had it bound differently.
I'm considering using R,D,F,G, instead of W,A,S,D, and Z instead of L Shift, and L Alt instead of L Ctrl.
I would have many other keys nearby to the left to use that way as well. I can even easily reach the right Alt key with my thumb from that position.
Positioning without looking is just a matter of feeling for the L Shift key with my small finger, and following it over to the adjacent Z key.
