Monty-Dan's Pictures of War movie has just been nominated for Best Editing in the Machinima 2005 Film Festival. It's great to see someone from this community get this kind of outside recognition. Congratulations to Monty for all his hard work. And keep in mind that POW was only intended to be an exercise in cinematography and editing for him. His next project should really impress.

S!

Firstly it€s great that a movie from this community has been selected for nomination, and most importantly I feel it€s a very positive thing to happen for our community and hopefully more people will visit to see what we are all about.

Secondly, as I was inspired to make movies by this community just about 30 months ago I feel that the people who inspired me with their work and the people who have helped me produce decent movies should be listed as the old cliché goes €œI couldn€t have done it without you€.

In no particular order at all,

OMG sounds like an acceptance speech http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Also a mention to the people who have simply downloaded my movies, watched them and then posted their thoughts http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Finally:

Quote GL2 "His next project should really impress" - not much pressure there then eh GL2... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif May I remind you that what goes up must come down http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Jag, are you a geologist, or meterologist? I'd love to go to the Antarctic at some point. I've read a good deal about various expeditions, and so on. And I've seen Alien vs Predator! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

The results from this competition are in. Unfortunately, €œPictures of War€ did not win the award for Best Editing. €œStrangerhood Studios€ took the prize. However, it€s worth noting that €œStrangerhood Studios€ is a group of filmmakers made up of five people. They€re the ones behind the Red v Blue series and have made over 150 films. Monty, of course, is a one-man operation with three films under his belt, so it€s quite an accomplishment that POW came so close to winning.

FYI, the Bergen Kunsthall Institute, which is the largest contemporary arts institute in Norway, is having a major exhibition starting at the end of November for 4 weeks. They are showing work from the 3D gaming movie world, and POW has been selected for a large screen showing every day during the exhibition. The Institute is €œextremely impressed with POW in every aspect€ and is showing the movie in terms of €œwhat art can be achieved on a home PC.€ http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Congratulations again to Monty on the on-going success of POW. I hope more filmmakers from our community will enter their work in film competitions. There is a lot of talent here, and I€m sure in the future we€ll be seeing more films from this community achieve recognition in the broader Machinima community.

I was sad to hear "Pictures of War" didn't come top. Yet overjoyed it was up there and giving semi, if not totally pro filmmakers a d*mn good run for their money. I think Machinima should take a stand and create a seperate hobbyist category for the future.

It would be nice to see some comments from the Bergen Kunsthall Institute. Here's hoping.

Well done Monty. Its a fantastic achievement.

GL2, your critiques have always been welcome and have had a part on me improving my skills, and I really do hope you will continue to write them in the future as they are always a positive help in my opinion http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hi jagaetev,

If it were I would stay clear of the top brand products such as Sony and Toshiba unless you know of or have read reviews saying how good and compatible they are.

I'm not so sure I would go for and XviD/DivX player either as they have been in the past quite finicky about what they play.

Check this site out to see if there is anything that suits your needs:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

I would say consider the following:

How many films do you have that are not WMV format?
How many films do you have XviD/DivX format?

Most likely they havent come up with a machine to play WMV direct from a disk in a DVD player so they will have to remain on your PC. If you have few XviD/DivX then why go to so much trouble to pay extra for a DVD that can play them.

Would you consider reconverting the movies to a DVD compilation? Time consuming I know but nice all the same?
