Hey People!

I've only recently starting getting into first person shooters. Usually I'm playing point and click games so haven't seen the problem I'm about to ask a question about.

Since starting to play FarCry I've noticed every now and then (usually in the heat of a battle) my keyboard takes over and guides my character to a corner and I lose virtually all control of movement, but I can turn around with the mouse still. Sometimes I can move forward or backwards from where I get stuck but the keyboard still seems to be moving me left or right even though I'm not pushing that direction. I think usually it happens when I'm using three keys at the same time.

This happens both on COD and FarCry. Until it happens both games play without problems.

Does anyone have a clue what is going on? Cheers

Have you split Coca Cola on your keyboard???

Last time I did that I would get real bad sticky keys and my player would run in direction of stuck key... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Well that taught me never to put drinks near my PC.

Can't remember the details, but XP uses a keystroke combo to turn on 'sticky keys' - this 'may' be what's happening.

Do a search in the XP help for sticky keys and turn it off!

if you think its sticky keys hold down a key like shift for five to ten seconds and xp will popup the menu that you need to disable or enable the features.

All of these suggestions sound highly probable including coke http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Thanks for your ideas guys, I'll investigate tonight and give the keyboard a much needed clean it probably has needed for some time, also investigate this sticky key situation.

Thanks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've had a similiar problem before. I couldn't double tap any button because sticky keys limited the window of opportunity to 0.5s->whatever (the 0.5s was screwing me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ). I have also had your problem before a few times, and on other peoples computers. This isn't a farcry problem at all. The key seems to be held down a little longer after you press it (~1sec), so you have that extra movement. It is only really noticable in FPS-Games. So basically you have your gravity effect. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Answer you ask? Well, what everybody has been saying (excluding coke, very unlikely). Turn anything & everything off related to sticky keys. Good luck.

Sorry guys, haven't had chance to visit Jack for a couple of days, but I'm sure my problem will be solved once I get rid of the sticky keys function.

Thanks for your help, one and all http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Ok, so here's the score. I routed through my device manager and found that somehow my PS2 keyboard was conflicting with Motherboard Resources, CMOS real time clock, System timer and Direct memory access controller.

So there obviously was this problem to solve then try Farcry again (which I haven't yet), but I bought a USB keyboard and plugged it in and suddenly all the conflicts have gone. I didn't get time to try FC, but hopefully will tonight. I'll let you know.
