Dedicated Fans and Players Want to Delay Game for Higher Quality Release
Worldwide, Jan. 26, 2006. A group of Heroes of Might and Magic community Websites today launched a collaborative effort to persuade Ubisoft executives to delay the launch of their highly anticipated title Heroes of Might and Magic 5. SaveHeroes.Org is a concerted community effort to further that cause.
This effort, and the reasons behind it, started largely because of the open beta test, which started on GameSpy on Monday, January 23rd. With Heroes of Might and Magic 4 having received poor sales in comparison to its predecessor, Heroes 5 is seen by most as a make or break game. If it fails, so will the entire Might and Magic franchise. If it succeeds, then the product line would gain the support it needs for a long term at Ubisoft.
With these facts in mind, community websites, including Celestial Heavens, The Oracle League, Age of Heroes, Heroes Community, The Genies Lamp, Guardians Grove, and many others started posting petitions and banners to "Save Heroes 5". Not long after, these same leaders gathered to try and organize a collaborative effort to attempt to show Ubisoft that releasing an unfinished game would not go over well at all.
After the rough start and continued issues of the Open Beta, and some investigation, these leaders realized that there was little time to act. Ubisoft's fiscal year ends on March 31, coinciding with the release date. Ubisoft was also the target of a takeover bid in December of 2004, something they are not likely to forget easily. Wanting to hit or exceed their yearly targets could be a reason for the March 31 release date.
However, such short-term plans are exactly what doomed Heroes 4, New World Computing and The 3DO Company. SaveHeroes.Org is now open to try and prevent such a thing from happening.

Interesting. And I do not know if such site was absolutely necessary, but nevertheless it is true that the Heroes 4 rushed release should NOT reoccur. The game is ready when it is ready, whatever time it takes.

Maybe I just missed it,... but what are the reasons why you think HoMM5 is in need of saving? What makes it so bad right now and how do you know these problems aren't being worked on right now/ or won't be fixed in time? All I saw on the page were some general guidelines like "singelplayer campaign has to be very polished/good,etc..." but nothing specific. Care to make me care about it?

I dont think it will piss off Fabrice.
He is a heroes fan just like the rest of us, and he wants a good game just like the rest of us.
Just because he works for Ubi doesnt mean he is brain dead.
Citadel: The ones organizing this are people who played in the closed beta, most of us since day 1 of push 1. We know the development cycle they go through, how long it takes to fix bugs, and what they focus on. It is our collective opinions and facts found on the Ubi site (their actual reports) that leads us to believe that, while the game will be good, it will not be what everyone wants to have. IE: Good AI, MP and RMG/Map Editor for starters.

The only way to see if a game needs 'saving' or not is to see how it is when released. I haven't played the beta yet, but even if it isn't any good I'm not going to bother signing a petition. I'm defently not going to buy the game until after I play it, so if they decide to release a crappy game I could care less. I haven't ever preorder games because you aren't buying previous expetations of a game, you are buying whatever they decide to make. Basicly don't tell them not to rush the game, when you rush yourself and preorder without playing a demo or whatever.

less bugs = more fun.. Ill hope ubi realise it!
for exampel battlefield 2 is so bugged you still can call it a beta, even after several patches. Not fun!

Well guess what - a lot of people care, because HoMM isn't exactly your typical Barbie Makeup Adventures. Thats why people who care will do anything in their power to prevent another Heroes 4 deja-vu.

This game has huge potential,it should be released later Just make it perfect if possible anyway we(hom&m fans)will survive.
Just see "world of warcraft" :delayed with MORE than 1 year.
y do not what h5 2 become a second h4(refering to unfinished,bugged etc.)
They should make it"perfect" even if it takes 6 months

I'm afraid that is not possible, since a great deal of people here have played for the last 4 months and I guess that they had pretty good bonds with the producers, the only sad thing with this is that it can't be confirmed because of the NDA http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I have been playing the Heroes series for 9 years now and i have seen it's good sides and it's bad sides...Yes, i liked more homm III than IV, but as a true fan i can't say i disliked Homm IV; and for sure i can say i'll buy Homm V the momment it's on the market! Even if you all are so desperate in pointing out some polishing and surface bugs.
You say that is not optimized for slower computers, but what beta is???? Tell me one producer that would release a beta version with everything in place...a beta is supposed to be with bugs and everything else so that the fans would correct them; if everything would be ok, then it wouldn't be a beta, would it?
Not to mention that on another thread Fabrice posted a comment that the final release would run on settings closer to the minimum ones; what else do u want?
+It does not even have such high requirements, all the recent FPS games have higher game specs.
So in my opinion, instead of trying to "sabotage" the release with petitions and stuff, you'd better give a hand in beta testing, report as many bugs as posible so the programmes would correct them. I believe this would be the right attitude of a true fan.
With requests like yours you do something like this: the producer works to build the game for several years, it brings it to the test phase and you look at it and say...no , we don't like it, take it back, change the engine, change the graphics , change everything, bring it back in one year and maybe then we'll like it.
And i am sure it's not going to happen, just as i am sure that ubi is not going to delay a single day with it's release, and i'll buy the game, and if i find a single bug i'll flood their e-mail until they'll put out a patch to fix it.
You say you don't want patches...it is impossible, every major game had dozens of patches...why, because lots of people played that game, and let's face it, the game will crash on our computers and we'll be the ones who will say if in campaign x when taking over castle y the game crashes with eror z. And they will put out a patch to fix that...that's the way things work, i don't know why things should be different now...
And one more thing ...we now what heroes is...but what about the newcommers? what if you would hear from your friend that there was a great game , heores ,and now there is a sequel on the market? Before buying it you would try to find out everything and if he or she stumbles on his/her search on a thread like this, he wil say...i am not going to buy this..if the fans are so against it, it must really be a piece of **** (sorry for the language); and this will ruin the game for sure.
Now, don't get me wrong, i am a true fan of this game, an i want it to be THE GREATEST GAME EVER, but this kind of attitude won't bring this to us...Save Heores V...Heroes doesn't need to be saved, it only needs players to crush themselves in epic battles in multiplayer lan or hot-seat, and a great saga to continue the legends of the might and magic universe...
I am sorry if i upset anyone here, and i respect your opinions, but i don't think your aproach will help in getting ourselves a better game.

1548 now.
Zamolx... for the a lot time those who started this have played the closed beta for several months! Don't you think the know what they are talking abot? We haven't talked about slower computers and all of us have pointed out that this is only a beta... We don't say we don't want patches, we say we want a playable game which diesn't scare all the customers away... for more detatils dig a bit in the old posts, I don't want to repeat what people like Sir Charles (CHUCKLES), Znork, Zamolxis all the forum leaders... have stated before.
Now Znork... what on earth is a sals? a new Znorkish word for sails?

Zalm- we're not asking for a redesign. We're asking that Nival is given enough time to get the game to a stage were major game modes are usable- things like Ghost mode or simultaneous turns. We might or might not like all the design decisions, but we'd dislike a halffinished game a lot more than one were every desig decision is made following our wishes. Bugs can be amended. The lost confidence in the series brought by a product that's missing major features can't.

As of 2pm GMT today (Sunday 29th) administrators of the major Heroes of Might and Magic fan sites around the world have signed a News Suppression Pact in protest to a premature release of Heroes of Might and Magic 5.
The pact was signed by Age of Heroes (http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com) (International), Archangel Castle (http://www.archangelcastle.com) (France), Behemoth's Lair (http://mib.site.9o.pl/jb_h5/) (Poland), Castle Gobs (http://www.castlegobs.nl) (International), Celestial Heavens (http://www.celestialheavens.com) (International), Drachenwald (http://www.drachenwald.net) (Germany), The Genie's Lamp (http://www.the-genies-lamp.com/) (International), Guardian's Grove (http://www.guardiansgrove.com) (International), Heroic Corner (http://heroes.ag.ru) (Russia), La Torre de Marfil (http://www.torredemarfil.org) (Spain) and The Oracle League (http://www.oracleleague.com) (International). All other HOMM websites are also invited to join this pact.
As representatives of the online HOMM Community, we, the pact members, strongly believe that Heroes of Might and Magic 5 will not be of sufficient standard and quality if the release is rushed for March 2006. As admirers of HOMM series and supporters of the current Heroes 5 potential, we will not tolerate a blow delivered by the release of an incomplete and unbalanced game.
As an action of protest, following this announcement, no news or updates will be posted on our web sites. Additionally, Heroes of Might and Magic 5 information will be removed from our web sites. We request that Ubisoft officially confirms that the release date of Heroes of Might and Magic 5 will be delayed past March 2006, for a period of time sufficient to develop a balanced and fully functional game. We do not regard the announcement made on Gamespot as true until Ubisoft issues official confirmation.
As an indication of support for our protest, the SaveHeroes.org Petition (http://www.saveheroes.org/petition/) has been signed by over 1500 people in less than three days and received 30000 unique visitors. During the last week our web sites received more than 150000 visits.
We encourage all Heroes of Might and Magic fans to join our cause by signing the SaveHeroes.Org Petition (http://www.saveheroes.org/petition/) and to stop posting on the official Ubisoft forums and to use our forums instead.
Additionally, you can help our cause by inviting your friends to sign the petition, by e-mailing Ubisoft and by notifying the media and game retailers about this situation. For more ways to help, see SaveHeroes.Org (http://www.saveheroes.org).

apparantly I got it right...just hope this will get the same result as when we in my school went against the government, surrounding theire headquarters, skipping school, blockades in the school, walking protest march in a blizzard... 3 weeks later we got what we wanted http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
However i can't help but feel sorry for al those who want Heroes V information and all has dissapeared...

Wow the ante has certainly been upped!!!!
Good luck you guys.
FYI: I hope that IF UBI announces that the game will ship ONLY when ready that the protest doesn't hurt sales. Of course you have to do what you have to do because if the game blows because it was rushed then HoMM is dead anyway.

Well, let's consider it from this point of view:
Heroes 3 was and is a great game. What if in the building process the manufacturers would have said: we will give you a game with a mode that will permit simultaneous turns, and the , one month before the release you would have realized that there wasn't any mode....you reaction...unfinished game...not worthy....and you would have missed one of the best games ever.
On the other side, what would have happened, if after a year of playing homm III you got a patch containing an update that allowed you to play simultaneous turns...yur reaction: wow, great, excelent work programmers for thinking of this, it was a great game and now it's greater...
What i am trying to say is that maybe we'll all be in for a major surprise. Maybe what the guys at nival did was to take the backbone of Homm 3, and continuing it , giving it new life...New gameplay, new graphics, perhaps a very good story, and all these mixed with some good mutliplayer maps to keep you awake playing via lan or hot seat, the way we played heroes years ago.And maybe, just maybe, they'll release a patch containing all the new modes and original things promised.
If they try to release a game that has all the modes but some things are little crappy here, others are a little crappy there, hell, i'll subscribe ten times your petition to prevent that from happening. But if they'll give me a great Heroes game , in the style of Homm3, working great, optimized, and with a good campaign story and good multiplayer maps i won't mind if i have to wait another month until they get a patch with simultaneous mode working perfectly, and another 6 months with another original adition, this too working perfectly. Isn't this an acceptable solution, rather than taking the whole game back to manufacturers?

I respect and mostly agree with your opinion. I HOPE that this could have been handled in another way.
However [playing devil's advocate] the only way that you will EVER get "the suits" to listen to you is by threatening them in the 1 place that they understand ... sales. If blackmail is what it takes then you just hope you get away with it without crippling what you're fighting for.

Yes for now...
Else Zamolx... it isn't something as small as simultaneous truns, then I would never sign since I don't like that idea, since i am afraid that the NDA binds me from saying anything, I can only repeat what has been said. The AI is mildly said horrible, we had it in the closed. The rest I don't remembe i fthe helpers said so wait for one of theire answers or go searching for the old threads...
I would really like to know if they are serious about removing all the info about heroes V http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Yes. This is what happens when games ship without major features (case in point: Heroes 4). Maybe they could release it at end of march, but it would most likely be a game which barely has the game options that H3 had- and that's not what we've been led to expect.
