A trilogy in four parts.

Includes the first ever IL2 movie with no planes in it?

As the brave 69.GIAP hunts the dastardly Tirpitz...

Chew your nails at the night take off,

Gasp at the splash of torpedos,

Scream at the explosions,

Cringe at the gross overacting...

First download Xvid codec

Excellent movies. I really enjoyed the humor of the fishing boat running into the Tripitz and demanding compensation while in port. The headlines were great. The torpedo runs and high level bombing featured some great shots, well done. The best part was clearly the landings with Il-2's and B-25's, absolutely masterful. how did you bring those two aircraft to a full stop without running off the deck?? The B-25 I am guessing you reversed the prop's, but the Il-2 I am at a loss for. How do you stop a single engine airplane on the deck without a tail hook? Excellent wrok 69!!!

The carrier landings had to be filmed in realtime in order to get the battle damage - with Ntracks battle damage seems to dissapear. There is no special trick to landing without a hook. You set the carrier speed to max (50+ Kmh) heading south which gives an extra 10 Km/hr headwind, dirty up the plane with flaps and gear, 50% prop pitch to give more gentle throttle control then feel for near stall point, drop it on the deck gently and feed in the brakes with a gentle zig-zag. In actual practice the carriers were going a bit too fast and we were taxiing up to the end of the deck.

This way you can get the plane down in less than half the deck - which is what's needed for our carrier qualification training where we have to take off and land 5 times in a row in IL2s and A20s.

If you click on my badge to take you to the GIAP site look at the training section and you can download the carrier training missions.

Cool movie(s), original concept, and who was that playing the part of the fishing boat captain? That was an outstanding performance! Absolutely capital!! Such a powerful and commanding voice, and so on http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Fantastic Stenka! And Tooz and the rest of your squad from 69GIAP.

Really enjpyed watching that. Good story and a laugh.

OK, so maybe the quality and cinematography was a bit on the low side, but a great example of how a good story is more important than a perfect picture http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Looking forward to the next one!

Hi Stenka,

Got chance to watch all the parts of this one at last http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Positives:
Descent story, well put together, very funny in parts, picture quality was good considering that many of early scenes were in a storm. Excellent sound effects and music choice, and good use of voice actors, apart from that Captain guy on the Fishing Boat who thinks he was Sean Connery http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Really enjoyed watching the IL2 land on the carrier, brilliantly done sir, I can€t even land at an Airfield.

Negatives:
The movie was drawn out in places; some of the scenes went on too long with the same camera shot, and in only a few places the sound level mix was not right, and the guy on the Fishing Boat, leave him out of your next production http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Having said all that for your first production I thought it was very good and entertaining 75% of the time, good work Stenka and team, oh and Tooz http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hope you will make another one

******NEWS FLASH RELEASE******

Rumor has it that STENKA, TOOZ and the rest of the 69.GIAPer's will be staring in a epic film involving the historic British attack on the grand Italian fleet at Tarrento. I don't exactly know what devilish plan STENKA has up his sleve, but I am sure that it will be a strange one!

STENKA_69GIAP
09-27-2005, 04:52 PM
Well tarrento is a bit special...

Having rewritten the battle for the river plate I've no problem flyin torpedo planes at night and back off of a carrier... as for sean connery it's a big question as to whether he will turn up for the awsome budget...

A very funny series of films. I was not able to d/l #3, but I found it fun.

There were repetitious things you could have cut out, for example, all those flyby's in part 1?

Yes could have cut them - section 1 was the first experimental learning bit and I love flybys, and was too exhausted to go back and recut - also all section 1 was uncropped - and I
would remix sound to up music - but it still holds a raw edge which balances well with 2 and 3. It was only by the time I got to 3 that I got a better balance on suspense and action.

Either way it broke new ground in several areas - quite honestly I yawn more at yet another fighter dogfight...

Still the next film is technicaly challenging as it nearly all passes at night - wait for a real disaster there...

When next film release please?

The first section of Tarranto will be out in about a month as the squad is just finishing the Recon mission out of Malta, the night strike will be running on Wednesday and then I have to design the part of the bad guys chasing the Illustrovich across the Med.

Oh - and we're still waiting for that fishing boat to turn up on the filmset.... it was last reported turning right out of Hamburg harbour...

If there are any Italian speakers out there seeking fame and misfortune as a start to their acting career or stuka pilots that can hit a ship click on my badge and post up in our forum.

Is there any chance someone could post the final instalment of this film again? I have downloaded it twice, and it appears the file is corrupted. The other three files play fine, but the last one won't for some reason.

Great stuff!!

What is the name of the piece of music that was playing when the 25's were making their bombing run?

Thanks for sharing.

Hi GL2 - I just tested the download on three separate computers and it ran clean - it is the longest of the films and if you have line problems you are likely to encounter them on this download. Please try again.

I am just finishing the first section of the new film - Taranto - when I complete that - next week I'll try uploading them all to a different site.

Willie - I'll get the title of that music tomorow - at the moment the CD's in the car.

Stenka, OK, I'll give it another try. It may be a glitch with my computer. I've been having problems getting Media Player to play some movies, for some reason.

Looking forward to Taranto, BTW. Tooz has mentioned it in our forums (hasn't given away any surprises, don't worry). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The title is 'La chancon D'echelon'in french which translates into 'the squadron song ' or the 'squad song'in english composed by A.ALEXANDROV/OKOUTCHEV - Alexandrov from what I understand was the leader of the Red army choirs for many years and succeeded by his son - i think.

It's actualy not about flying squadrons - you can't hear from the soundtrack but it actualy simulates a train leaving station with soldiers aboard.

It actualy features on the 1928 - 2003 Read Army Choir Anniversary Album which is quite honestly one of the best that you can get. Of course the one used in the film was actualy played and sung by the 69.GIAP. You can tell taht because in the second stanza I dropped the bass Ballalaika on Tooz's toe and you can just hear the wimpy scream...

OUTSTANDING!!

Poor Tooz's wee lil toe.. LMAO

Thanks again, I'll do my best to find the 69th's production here in Cowtown, TX. If I can't find it, I guess I'll have to get the other one..

At last - it's out - part 1 of Tarento.

A sordid tale of lust, greed and torpedos.

Even more gross overacting.

Very; very good!

A totaly fresh approach; with some great camera angels and a unique story line.

However; the actual picture quality was very poor on my PC; and looked very pixelated and "jpeg". This could of course be due to my P.C.; but I had a quick look at my other IL-2 films afterwards to try and check if I'd picked up a corrupted codex or similar; and they displayed in their usual quality.

I played the films using "VLC"; as Windows media player would only play the audio track.

All in all very good; thanks a lot!

Yes - there are some dodgy picture quality sections - particularily in part 1 which was my first movie - As I've been working on the next Tarento film some of the guys on the forum have been helping with the quality side.

First problem was that I was compressing clips then cutting then recompressing the result. During the process quality degrades as multiple compressions accumulate (hense jpeg effect). In the new film I have done all my cutting with raw files (needs loads of diskspace) which means that at most there are only two compressions and only the last one is a hard compression.

Second problem was the small dimensions of the original capture and final output. I've now standardised on capture at 800x600 and output at 800x600 with very little cropping.

Third problem was getting less jagged edges - by upping the AA.

Quality on the new film isn't perfect but it's getting there which leaves the last problem - getting the actors to get their voice recordings and re-recordings in quickly.

The Tarento Recon movie is now sitting at the last cut for the final voice recordings...

Oi Tooz and Ubijka - get those recordings done....

I have tried a number of times to get the video to play on my computer but to no avail. When it opens windows media player, all I get is a black screen with feedback noise with scratching. I reinstalled the Xvid codec a number of times but the thing is, I have no problem playing other Xvid encoded videos, so I have no idea what the problem is.
Really want to see your video so if you have any idea as to the cause of my problems, please feel free to share.

Note. These films are in an AVI format and the only codec used was Xvid.

I have checked the eye links and they work for me.

They play back OK using the latest windows media player on my Vista 64 bit system, they play back OK using a realy old Windows media player on my work XP system.

It could be that something is up with your Windows Media player software.

In order to eliminate this possibility google for a freeware AVI player, install and test that.

I just found one on www.hyplay.com (http://www.hyplay.com) I installed it and eye of the storm plays nicely on it.

Ah while I'm here Hi everyone,

I vowed I wouldn't come back here because movie making had started to take over my spare time and there was no time left for flying and doing stuff with the squad.

You know at the begining when I did the first eye of the storm movie it took me three days to turn out a 3 minute clip. With the last project by the time you had character animation, object animation, il2 action and multiple character actors all being superimposed and co-ordinated each minute was taking nearer a month of heavy spare time to complete. Then for some reason IL2 screen capture started to get jumpy...... then our website got hacked...

Still, at least we have just completed the rebuild of the www.69giap.com (http://www.69giap.com) website and it looks great - click on my badge to visit.

Hi Stenka...

I'm still waiting patiently for the concluding episode http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

But you're right, it can be very time consuming.

PS - VLC is probably the best free simple and most compatible player.
