Don't think it's been especially optimised for any particular resolution - but it should run smoother in lower resolutions.
The best card to buy if you want to run Lomac would be a 5950 Ultra, or a 9800XT - and even then you might not be able to run it maxed out in a busy mission environment. Certainly not if you didn't have top-line supporting hardware.

As far as I know, the code is not optimised for any particular resolution. However, because the game is largley CPU limited many people find it possible to get almost constant FPS even as they crank up the resolution. I have found almost no difference in FPS between 1024x768 and 1200 x 1000, so I play in the latter with 4x FSAA and 8x or 16x AF.
The best way to test is to record a standard track, then play it in different resolutions and record the FPS to file with FRAPS so you can see the differences.

Maybe 1280 X 1024 or 1280 X 960.

Since I upgraded my 2.8 to a 3.2C CPU i am running LOCK ON at 1800 x 1440 and am getting fps in the high 30's to mid 40's.
Also have 1Gb Corsair TwinX 3200 Pro Ram and 9800 Pro vid card.

When I get more time I'm going to try running it at different resolution. Right now it's at 1280 X 960 I will try 1280 X 1024 and 1600 X 1200, i might even try 1880 X 1440.
