Now that settlers was butchered, i'm thinking I should pick up Northland (Cultures 3) instead. Which i've been meaning to buy anyway. Pretty hard to find game in the States but Amazon has it and a few importers do as well.

Every review i've read on it says its pretty solid and true to Cultures/Settlers lineage.

it's really great! and the story is made by yvoks, who made the story of hok, too!
but it's not Cultures 3! After Cultures 2 Funatics where down because of some problems with phenomedia, who had major % of funatics (development). After a few weeks Funatics refoundet as funatics Software! The License of Cultures was lost and so they released the followed games as stand alones.
there are:
Northland - already released in western region under gmxmedia afair
8th world wonder - dunno the state of translating and stuff, but will be released too, i think.
Cultures: the Saga - a compilation of Northland, world wonder and cultures 1!
additional information:
Northland includes a really good map editor!
and if you've got some questions, take a look at the german Cultures Forums (http://www.funatics.de/phpBB2/index.php?c=11). in about an hour there will appear a new english forum!!

According to all the reviews, Northland is a cleverly disguised "Cultures 3".
I have to ask, why no English version of 8th World Wonder, and Cultures Saga? Now seems to be a ripe time to release a "Cultures Anthology" or something. Which would be the full set.
I'd buy that in a heartbeat.. IS/when will Cultures Saga of 8Th World Wonder be available in English? I found a few places selling Northland already, but I want the others.

Cultures 1 and 2 are very very RELISTIC!!! you actually tell your people where to live, where they work, etc.. Northland is a beutiful game and I really recommend it..
It is very similar to Settlers: HOK

Thank you for the tips, guys. I bought Northland and I'm enjoying the micro-management. I'm not missing settlers at all... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
