View Full Version : Anyone here more interested in the Single Player than MP?

I have noticed over the last while that games have really dropped the ball when it comes to Single Player. It seems companies seem to focus on MP so much more now. For example, the first COD had great immersive SP and then all the other released after seem more multiplayer based.
I have high hopes that Far Cry 2 will have a sweet single player, I probably won't even touch the MP. Anyone else like me or feeling the same way?

Totally. I might get into Far Cry 2's multiplayer though, if it turns out to be good.
It's a shame and a loss for those certain few people that aren't really interested in the SP that much, when Ubisoft clearly put in much more effort and focus into crafting the SP experience than the MP.

The single player is definitely worth it on its own. Oblivion didn't have multiplayer and no one complained. Here we have a potentially great game and a great map editor yet people keep complaining about the most trivial things.
Most of these people who are arguing over such nonsense such as lean, prone amongst other things are children who won't even be paying for the game. Instead their parents will be buying it for them. This may be a sweeping generalisation but when you look at how some of these people type, it becomes apparent that they are imbeciles.

But if the people who are crying about prone actually stop and think about it . how would prone benefit the player if you are always around tall grass?

I only play single player games, that's why I'm waiting for Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3.
MP games are mindless repetitive garbage.

Anyway, after learning the vehicle cap for map editor is only 6, I fairly sure i am more excited for Singleplayer than Multiplayer.

Well I'm glad some people agree hah. I'll probably try out MP once or twice, but like all multiplayer games, I get pretty bored quickley.
I find it repatitive and just all around pointless. Plus some people take the game way to seriously.
When I play a game I like to follow a storyline, and be like immersed in it. Kinda like a movie expect you play the main character.

As leader of a Farcry MP clan, I'm mainly interested in the MP game. As for the prone thing....Most of us use prone when we need to get a really steady shot, usually at distance. As long that the crouch has steady aim, it should really not even be neccesary to prone. I know there are other reasons for going prone, but I'm just saying the biggest one would be steadiness.

Personally I am REALLY glad they took prone out of this game. So many people abused prone in FCIP. There was a lack of transition animation from standing to prone & vice versa so in a firefight people would continuously snap back & forth between prone and standing and it made them so hard to hit. God I HATED people that did that, so im happy with no prone in FC2.

I'm going to play the Single Player on the Very Hardest difficulty and complete it 100%, of course I'm looking forward to it. But once I finish Single Player, I will want to keep playing and make sure I'm still hooked and that's where the multiplayer comes in.

Well xbox 360 players if htey want to completethe game they have to goto multiplyer because there will probaly be achevments for multiplayer so that is the only way to go 100% on Far Cry 2 xbox 360.

Multiplayer is usually very fun and all, but I prefer progressing through the singleplayer game, at my own pace, where I can marvel at the work that's gone into it.
I will probably only look at multiplayer about a month after the game comes out, no matter how good people say it is. I want to slowly absorb everything the game has to offer in singleplayer first.

Agreed, I highly doubt a person is only going to buy the game just for multiplayer. Like you said, I'm paying $100 for the game, and I want my $100 worth.
Besides, single player and multiplayer are very different, and the way I look at Singleplayer, as my training for the multiplayer. So I can understand everything from controls, weapons, vehicles and tactics.

not only this is a very rough generalization but also ridiculously un-true.
most of the ppl who are in favor of leaning and prone are those who like to play things steadily and carefully instead of running and gunning.
it's the younger impatient crowd that seem to make it more important for themselves to frag others as soon as possible than wait, play carefully and use the surroundings.
in general the tactical shooters (those who have lean and prone) are meant more for the grown ups as it a genre that favors immediate gratification a lot LESS than the arcady run and gun games.
just cuz u are maybe older than 15 and pay more attention to typos doesnt mean that the discussion revolves around the missing prone or lean features is made by youngsters. maybe some of them, like mylself, are just not from an english speaking country or just dont give a significant importance to typos and grammar. the ppl who really want lean are complaining about serious re-precautions of this omission in a serious and deeper manner than what u presume to grasp.
im one of them , i am deeply missing these features and i value the input of my fellow gamers in the discussion of that matter as i think they bring interesting insights into why they think there is no lean or prone , why is that a good thing or why that is a bad thing.
B.O.T:
now, i usually prefer SP a lot more than MP. the SP has a better atmosphere as it is a part of a world and a story and a larger meaning than that specific round and who wins it. it is a part of a long term adventure and usually has a better sense of progression and evolution.
i like to take my time in SP games and value the surroundings and the fire fights and play them the way I like.
in MP games i need to play the way OTHERS play cuz im supposed to win, or at least survive. i dont like rushing. i dont like charging, running and gunning like in 95% of the online shooters. in SP i can play tactically even if it IS an acrady shooter (like COD4) but on MP i have no choice but to rush like everyone else (again, like COD4).
mind u, i am a decent COD4 player with a great kill\death ration but i do not enjoy playing it like that.
only GRAW PC seemed to answer my expectations and allow me to play the way i like. FC2 seems to have a lot more in common with COD than GRAW PC so i guess most of my time will be invested in SP and not MP.
another reason that i am looking forward to the SP of FC2 and not the MP is because we haven't heard anything about it and the little i HAVE is very unappealing. but i know i WILL give it a try and if i will like it than i will stick with it.
the last reason i prefer SP over MP is the ability to choose my own conditions of play, in some sort. usually in MP i have to accommodate to the conditions the server is giving me. in SP i know exactly what are the conditions im playing at and if i bought the game for it's SP conditions than it's because i like them. in MP there are constantly mechanics i dont like and these mechanics are usually out of my hands.
last reason - i dont have many gamer friends (memo to self - get new friends) and i rarely play with someone i know, not to mention - like.
i love chatting in MP games and having a laugh (the social manner of MP is one of the things i DO love about it) but i rarely play with friends or really fun ppl.
end of rant. Adar out.

Single player is one of the game part when you look in the past there were no mp !
But now that there is internet and u can play with others people the same game, the mp become one the big part of a game !
Why ? Because it's the mp that make the game played for a long time !
Look at the greatest exemple even if i don't like this mod : Half-Life mega giga ultra great single player but people continue buying HL because of Counter-strike a HL mod !

Exactly, MP games are the lowest of the low.
Mass Effect
Deus Ex
Half Life 2
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
The Chronicles of Rid d i c k
Fallout 3
Bioshock
compare that to the pointless spawning-hopping-running-around-in-circles MP garbage.
But like consoles are dumbing down everything so is the MP trend for the mindless kiddy gamer.

While some games just don't need any multiplayer modes, without multiplayer, most hugely popular games would have failed. Take Half Life as an example. Counter Strike and the numerous mods pretty much built the Half Life name and that is why people continue to play the game down to this day. Why is COD4 so popular? It is certainly not because of the singleplayer mode. The Battlefield franchise is built around the robust and entertaining online mode, not the singleplayer side of things, so that suggests that multiplayer is just as important as a strong, well written singleplayer experience. For some gamers, multiplayer is the deciding factor on buying a game or not since people want value for money, not just a short lived singleplayer experience.
I can understand that not everyone likes multiplayer gaming, usually based around personal choice or a bad experience online but that is not to say that multiplayer is anywhere near the lowest of the low. 10 Million+ Subscribers to World of Warcraft would strongly disagree with singleplayer being king. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
Without Consoles, the gaming market would not be in the strong position that it is in today. More and more people are heading to home consoles due to their accessibility and ease of use.

Comments like the above are not needed on this forum, so if you really want to have a well rounded argument on the pros and cons for singleplayer vs multiplayer content, it would be wise to think about what you type before pressing the Post Now button.

I usually avoid MP modes or games. I'm more interested in the single player part of the game.
The only thing that is gonna, maybe, make me play the MP part is the map editor, if it really is only for multiplayer maps. If we can make single player maps, then I won't even touch MP.

<span class="ev_code_BLUE">I really want to play both SP and MP. Hopefully both will be great. They seem to be really focusing on the SP with previews and videos, but with the little info we got today with the MP screens saying that they want to make the MP comeptative made me very happy. I am a competative player and I don't accept defeat. It looks like FC2 will be kind of game that we havn't seen in a long time. A game that has great SP and great MP. and i also think like darklord_NL - this should be a long SP game and the MP in FC2 will be mostly to kinda add a little change of pace to the game, rather than be it's meat and potatoes.
GTA IV manages to include it's uniqueness into the MP as well and since FC2 doesnt do that its MP will probably be "just another run at the mill".
