I have the Pandora tommorrow MP demo and when i configure my Utility i get that everything on my comp is fine except for the pixel shader which I have the Nvidia Geforce4 MX440 128mb card, does this card support it, becuase i would think so. I got 128mb member, XP Home and a fast comp, ive seen other posts about this problem but when i start up my splinter cell, it doesn't even boot, i get an error. Can soembody please tell me how i can solve this problem? does this happen to people on full version also??

Sorry, but your card doesn't support PixelShader 1.1 or above and therefore you can't run either the demo or the full game.

More and more games are coming out that require PS1.1 (like the new Thief3, for example) and it would be wise to look to upgrading from your GeForceMX, which is effectively 4 year old technology.

I have the same pixel shader message. I Have a Mobility Radeon 9200 AGP. Is this one also not suitable, or is it just configured incorrectly.

Marco

PS: I have a wide screen, I don't know if this makes any difference

I do not know of any mobile cards that are supported by this game.

If this is true, that no mobile cards are supported, than it would have been a good idea of them to mention this on the box so that people with laptops (with decent cards) won't buy it...

By the way... why doesn't splinter cell support mobile cards. Is there a good reason for it?

THere are none listed in the List of Supported Cards on the box the game came in. On my box it says:

"Supported Video Cards At Time of Release:
ATI 8500/9000/9500/9700
NVIDIA GeForce 3/4 Families

Not Supported:
GeForce 4 MX, GeForce 4 Go, Game Pad

These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game. Additional chipsets may be supported after release. For an up-to-date list of supported chipsets, please visit the FAQ for this game on our support website at: http:/support.ubi.com "

As far as their reason, you would have to ask Ubisoft. I am not up on mobile cards, but if they do not support pixle shading (whether mobile of not) then they will not work on this game.

The Radeon 9200 is supported, but the mobile Radeon 9200 aparently not. The thing is that you can only find out after installing the game. Furthermore, pixel shading should be possible with a Radeon 9200 mobile.

That means your card is going to be unsupported then.

Someone told me it is also possible to use software for the pixel shading. Is this true? Where do I find this software

It doesn't work. You'll be playing the game .04 frames per second, so it'll be unplayable. Get a new card, you need one for furture games (aka Half-Life 2, Doom 3, etc...).

It doesn't work? Let me at least first try...

By the way, I just bought this laptop so I would say that I must be able to do at least something with it... For example I have no problems with Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness.

gnogtr

Yeah, but Tomb Raider has nothing to do with this game. It's a totally different company with a totally different game engine. The box specifically states that laptops aren't supported, and neither are GF4 MX cards. You'll need to learn to read those things. BTW, the emmulation software removes many textures causing the game to become unplayable.

Nope, not fine. Do you see GF2 listed on the box? NO.

You'll have to buy a supported card.

Nowhere on the box does it state that laptops specifically are not supported.

jzorro
06-20-2004, 03:29 PM
They are included in the line that says:
"These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game. Additional chipsets may be supported after release. For an up-to-date list of supported chipsets, please visit the FAQ for this game on our support website at: http:/support.ubi.com "

If it wasn't listed, it isn't officially supported.

Really?!? Well, here is the list directly from my post at the top of the forum, which is also on the bottom of the box:

Here it is, there have been some known problems among users with MX series and GF 2 series cards, but I have taken the initive to go to the OFFICIAL site and copy the minimum requirements for PT. Here they are:

Minimum Requirements:

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP (only)
1GHz Pentium III or AMD Athlon Processor
256MB RAM
64 MB DirectX 8.1-compliant video card (list is below of supported cards)
DirectX 9.0b

Recommended:

Windows XP
1.8 GHz Pentium 4 (I recommend at least 2.4)
512 MB RAM
128 MB DX 9.0 video card (List is below)

Supported video cards:

ATI Radeon 8500/9x00 family cards and newer
Geforce 3/4/FX series with the exception of the MX series cards and the laptop models of the aforementioned cards. These cards will NOT RUN THE GAME. (Pay close attention to that)

Now, come again?
