Just starting a list of guitars that I know work with the software. And trying to encourage other to pick up the game and play. Any Acoustic or Classical Players out there with success? Please list your guitars. Thanks.
-Les Paul "Special-II"
-Ministar "CLASSTAR"

It will be easier for you to list the ones that wouldn't work.

Any electric guitar will work, although I recommend staying away from anything with a Floyd Rose tremolo bridge for tuning reasons.

Anyone tried an Acoustic Guitar yet?

My 1978 Fender Strat works very well, thanks so much for such a great 'game'.

As long as the acoustic guitar has a pickup and can "plug in", it will work.

One thin to note- the $50 first-act newbie kid guitars at target will not work well. I ended up getting my son a 3/4 squire for $99 and saving myself a lot of grief. He'll grow into it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Maybe if you are using a cheap Floyd knock-off or you simply don't know how to set up a floating trem properly. My Charvel SoCal with a Floyd has absolutely no issues.

I hav a shecter sunset custom and it doesnt work, some times the game picks some sound when i strum but then quickly looses it, now i dont know if the problem is my guitar or the cable?
My friend came over with his guitar and it work fine, but we had some trouble getting it to work.

How old is your son? I was thinking about getting a Squier Mini for my son as well, but he's only 7. Too soon?

I'm using a new Ibanez GRX20L I bought from zzounds and it works Great. Loving that guitar, it's a beginner-level one, full size just around $200.. great deal.

there's nothing "wrong" with the epiphone les paul junior that comes with the game..but if you plan on putting serious hours into playing guitar, do yourself a favor and have a good luthier or guitar tech set it up for you. if your intonation is off, or your action is ridiculous, you'll get frustrated. it'll be $50 well spent and make a $100 guitar play more like a $400 guitar.
also, it's not a bad idea to ask the tech to take the tuners apart and clean them/regrease them. my luthier tuned a friends epiphone guitar and found a whole bunch of crap/dust/filings in the tuners that were preventing the gears from tuning smoothly.

thats whats wrong with this country today... threatening lawsuits for trivial issues. is it a 2010 fender stratocaster or a 2010 squier strat lol
caveat emptor.
anyway.. see you on the next "people's court" I just hope the refund is more substantial than the court costs
btw were they actual guitar techs, or friends who have "dabbled" in the guitar for a while that "cant find anything wrong"
I'm an IT guy and I bet it's akin to when I hear stories about how their friend who knows a lot about computers says that "my computer is messed up and it's dell's fault." http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Only problems I have had so far are,
1. My Fenders (9 with tremolos) are setup with lite springs (2 or 3 springs) for classic Surf music. Try to do bends and can't get a full step up without going flat.
2. Setting up a Floyd Rose to drop D on the fly for three songs ain't happening. Simply because of the locking nut and balance of the tremolo. Take the time to set it up for drop D and it will work fine.
Solved the problem by using the Gibson Melody Maker for standard tuning and the Les Paul for drop D. Both have fixed bridges with the Melody Maker with a Tone Pro adjustable bridge.
Good luck.

Sounds like the guitar techs are clueless, btw Guitar Centers don't have real guitar techs they are skulls they hire off the street.

Not too soon if your son has an interest. My 7 year old son tried the game with my guitar (RB 3 squire) and he got frustrated because he couldn't reach the frets good enough. Just got a Squire Mini off of craigslist and had him try it, he played ducks for an hour straight.
But, also at this age he gets frustrated easy. So make sure to help set his expectations. My son wants to win, but I worked to get him to understand that winning in this game is to improve and get a little better each time.
He is only competing against himself. Also, I had to tell him to not worry and don't get mad if he missed notes. That was the hard one to teach.

You're solution to #2 is better, but it's worth mentioning that there are aftermarket parts (EVH D-Tuna) that claim to do safe on-the-fly re-tuning to drop-D on floyd-rose tremelos. I can't attest to how well they work though. Or, just buy a Gibson with robot tuners and switch between any tuning in less than 2 seconds http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I found the list of guitars that work with the game...
If your guitar has a standard 1/4 inch input jack for you to plug in a cable, then yes, your guitar will work. If your guitar does not have a jack (for example, many acoustic guitars), you can go down to your local music store and buy a pickup, and your guitar will be ready to plug in and play.

An authentic Floyd Rose holds its tuning almost as well as a fixed bridge, if your strings are properly stretched. I haven't had an issue just unlocking the nut on the low E, dropping to D and re-locking it for the songs using that tuning. I might end up buying and installing a D-Tuna at some point, though...just for convenience.
Oh and for the guy whose Strat doesn't work - make sure if you're using active pickups, that the 9v battery powering them is fresh and not drained.

i just want to say that the Gibson custom shop ES-137 triburst with the varitone switch, works wonderfully 8), a 1960s remake gibson lespaul with the honey burst works well too and a Handmade acustic guitar out of KOA wood made in Hawaii works well, telecaster FMT HH crimson red transparent also does the trick thats about all i can vouch for 8)

I use a 2005 Burns Brian May Signature and it works fine. At first I could not figure why it would not work. Had all of my pickups in the off position. It is real cool that the game can tell when I have the pickups in and out of phase.

I have had success with both my fender pawn shop mustang and prs se custom 22. Haven't tried my breedlove ac25 yet (it's in the shop to have its action lowered)

I have a Schecter Diamond Series Omen-6. Works great so far, besides the Ubisoft cable slipping out of the jack. My normal analog cable fits in snuggly and and does not slip out.
