Does anyone know if there were any U.S. submarine operations in the Atlantic or European theater during WWII? and if so any suggestions on sources or books relating to them, thanks in advance.

Simple answer, yes there were US sub ops in the Atlantic. If I remember correctly, a couple of subs were involved in Operation Torch for scouting purposes.

From what I remember, most US sub ops in the Atlantic during WWII were training ops before Pacific deployment. Once it became clear that the Battle of the Atlantic was going to be won by the Allies, US deployments to the Atlantic Theater were severly cut in favor of Pacific ops against Japan.

Don't take my word as gospel, though. I'm sure there were some subs that served in the Atlantic throughout the war, but the main US submarine effort was the Pacific.

I put this link in the SHIV thread but here it is again. It's the website of the U.S.S. Batfish, and while it's not of Atlantic operations, it's a great read and some nice photos.
