Well if that's true then this release is already the end of the line for this series I guess?

Very sad news http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

The release of the sim will be a bitter/sweet moment for all of us!

I hope perhaps too many beers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif after an exhausting and stressfull working day put that words in Oleg's mouth, in a way he won´t back them tomorrow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

Saw this bit:

I believe Oleg left because of the plans that Ubi has for CoD..I think Ubi wants to give the upcoming patches, that will add planes etc as DLCs.His sims that was once for the gamers and gamers only ,maybe he sees em now, because of Ubi,to become just an other money maker.Just my thoughts.

Just rumors, but hmmmmmm.....

Wouldn't surprise me at all.I think most people on the forums let out an expletive or two when they heard ubi was the western publisher.

Everyone has bad days, I highly doubt Oleg would make an announcement like that in a youtube comment.

Its a shame when the creator loses control of a project such as CloDo and the marketer calls the shot ESPECIALLY where Ubi is involved, a look at the (lack of) marketing for example says it all...they are fools who really don't give a stuff about the hard work involved in creating a game such as this. If the story about Oleg retiring is true then all that is left to say is:
R.I.P flight simulations.

I think it's premature to really come to that conclusion based on a badly translated You Tube comment.

Freycinet made a Google translation as best he could to get a context for Oleg's statement. I'm not convinced it was the ending we are all thinking it is. As a matter of my opinion, in context it sounds more like he IS complaining about forum negative, all knowing members than anything else (again, based on a bad Google translation).

Should it be so, then I offer my thanks to the man.

EDIT: Some of what I wrote wasn't necessary. deleted upon 2nd thought.

And another one bites the dust.

Have to admit Ubisoft is on form, It dosnt matter how good the sim name is, how much of a following it has, Sooner or Later, if Ubisoft is involved it will be destroyed.

It would be the prank of the century IMO. If it is true, and he decides to leave the building, too bad but then I'd have more sparetime to do something constructive. Like drinking.

A reply from Oleg himself:

The true is that I'm still involved in a game industry. Still with sims.

However I'm thinking what to do next. One way I found. Another in research. All ways based on advanced gaming technologies.
I see real feature of gaming idustry, where also Mac take some part together with PC and concoles will be on a separate side or on the same if only they may have some still uniquie features of PC....

But where I don't see any great interests at the moment in the tablets and mobiles.

Some say that all should go for iOS... its a mistake. Some say that PC is died - its more greater mistake. Some say that only consoles may bring profit... that is also mistake (its not a mistake if the speech is about non so complex products that are going for the one time release without long life on the market).

For the stand alone products that are done only for PC, that have no analogs, that are the best, that are even in its only own small niche - there is the way to get income that to go forward.

Hope someone undertands my thoughs.

Pretty unintelligible but I don't see anything along the lines of "I quit mutha****as."

I'm thinking at worst Oleg had a few to many Glasses of straight vodka and got a little emotional. It happens. Nothing to see here.

Pretty easy to translate what he is saying:

1) he is still involved in CoD and not quitting that till its finished

2) AFTERWARDS once CoD is done he is really not sure if he will ever do any more games - he has other "real world" projects he may do instead

3) apparently the main reason he may give up doing games after CoD is he dislikes the current bias amongst publishers towards quick easy to sell low quality titles that bring in a quick cashflow at the expenses of the high quality titles with long term sales and a dedicated user base.

The way I see it, he will no longer be the head of the development team, but will pursue other work in other areas (Even before IL-2, Oleg was doing programming for military sims, etc. and hopes to develop/ is developing camera software)

I don't think it means the end of the new series. Ilya will probably have control, and Oleg will stop in and say "hi" a couple times and check on his baby.

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but Oleg has gotten increasingly pale and sickly over the course of the development if you look for him in some photos. He and his team were working on this 6-7 days a week, 14 hours a day a lot of times. It's taken a toll, and for all that work, he will not get much out of it.

Yes he has a passion for flight sims, but how much further can he go? It's only about time...

I agree with your views Romanator, but I would like to think Oleg can 'walk away' with a sizable purse so that he can spend time on a tropical beach drinking whatever he pleases in order to regain his health, and recuperate so he can tackle whatever passion he wishes to pursue.
He is interested in photography and could devote his talents to that field as a means of recuperation.
I for one wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to pursue.
But I will miss the updates from IC that I fear will not be as forthcoming from the UBI conglomerate.

Heck of a way to torpedo his game with this statement.
This is the last thing you want to tell your customers two days before the game is released. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif He just lost a lot of money right there.
I have the feeling that nobody that invested money and hard work in this game is serious about seeing it suceed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Let's not forget that the IL2/CoD engine was mentioned as being expandable to include other flight simulators (civilian?) and possibly ground war - ala Battlefield 1942.

Who knows what that means for Oleg? Maybe he'll be personally involved - maybe not. He could have the next ID software engine that could make oodles of money for him.

Either way, I wish him the greatest luck and success in his next endeavor.

Not to forget that there are already DLCs in the makes and others have already been planned ( Oleg's statement about the eye-brow raising DLC), this sim will have a bright future. Just have a little faith and don't go with the slightest rumours.

Oleg has said all along that the game will be open for others to develop. Outside company's will be able to develop add-ons...and hopefully, we (the users) will be given the tools to develop "community add-ons".

Frequently (in past Q&A's) Olegs response to a "feature option" question was "is open to development...maybe by outside company"...

Is this situation really a new development? Its my understanding that the "Korean war game" is being developed by another company.

Trust me. There have been many many MANY times I wanted to just "quit" game development totally. Like someone said, you have bad days. From what it reads to me, Oleg's a bit fustrated, and blowing off some steam. I do happen to agree that the simple mindless and hardware limited console games are killing creativity in the industry. Ipad and mobile games are even more limited. I cant remember the last time there truly was an epic game that pushed PC hardware, or even the envelope of gaming itself! Everything is so dummed down for consoles its making me sick.
