Well you got to be a police officer on the department of what ever team your interested in. Most departments mandate that you have worked for them for a specific amount of time before you can apply to their SWAT program.
The hiring process for a SWAT team usualy consist of an exstensive physical testing along with a firearms evaluation. Then an oral interview board is give to the remaining bunch that is still in the running. Depending on how many openings the team has, they will pick the best candidates available.

Hey Reaper,
If you wanna be in a "SWAT" team you can still stay in the UK (if thats where you are). You do just what koffin said but in the UK and you can be part of either SO17 or 12 im not sure or be a plain clothes detective with a gun ( seen Serious and Organised lately?). The best part of this is that you dont patrol the streets and you dont get called out often /i/smilies/16x16_robot-very-happy.gif which means you stay safe but are still the member of a highly organised armed response team. You like that?
Good Luck

Most countries have some sort of equivalent unit. You don't need to go the US to be one.

If you are interested in S.A.S, Andy Mcnab wrote an excellant book titled Imediate Action. It includes what all he went through to join this elite team. If your serious, Id definitly look it up and read it. It gives you a good heads up on what to expect.

It is a very good book.Try reading his famous Bravo Two Zero aswell. I Also found a book in my shop by Chris Ryan. He was the medic in the patrol and he tells you his part of the story when they were separated.
Also get the Seires 1 Of ULTIMATE FORCE /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif because they have one episode on the Training bit. You got to be able to withstand alot there but when you get in its fun all the way (until you die at least /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ) Umm what else? Oh yeah one more thing. Train alot. as soon as you can go into the gym go in like everyday. trust me you'll need it with the things they expect of you. Running all night through a forest being chased by soldiers and dogs with nothing to eat and to make i sumthin like 10 miles in under two hours (crossing streams aswell)getting food. running for some omre. then comes the harder part. Interrogation.ppl in my college muck about and try to interrogate me and I found the trick is to just think of stuff you like ( sex, money, girls, cars) try and imagine this is like when you were 10 again and your Dad sed : If you do well in your exams you can get a bike. think of that but either ur girl saying u can have a good long s h a g or your dad saying you can have a Ferrari Enzo. Good luck

To tell tell you the truth , your chances of being in the sas extremely slim as they look for people who go to universitys such as oxford etc so unless your in a university like this you'll never get in plus you don't apply , they ask you if they like your status or something like that . don't worry , team rainbow are always there for you
lol

WTF ARE YOU ON ABOUT.to join the s.a.s you must first serve minimum service in the army and the only way to get in is you seargant or some one recomends you for it then you get whisked away to a 'football team@ that doesnt exist or something or thats what ure m8s think.THEN yo go throught immense training.your mates dont know your there and once your in most things are secret. (refering to 'they look for people wo go to university'my dads boss used to serve them and he joined the army straight after he left school)

Well if read McNab he said he just put in his chit to try out and went. Anyone can go, the selection is open to anyone that wants to try.
