Ok,I did find other threads on this, but I couldn't piece it together so I just played it out.

Here is how it goes:
-You get a message that says 'Your new base is Brest'
-When done with your current patrol return to your orginial starting base that you started the patrol from (odds are you won't see Brest on the map yet anyways.)
-When you've returned to your base, you'll get reloaded (torps and fuel) but you'll be unable to do anything with crew medals and awards (you can replace deaths and upgrade crew). You cannot refit your boat.
-Your next mission is to go to Brest, with no patrol zone (but since they gave you a bunch of torps...) and you should now see it on the map in western France.

I hope this helps someone down the road.

Sounds like a good addition to the Community Manual (http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/) to me.

Thanks for sharing, although I- since I'm one of those "Hit- ESC- and- click- "Return to Base" guys- never had any problems going to Brest http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

Yes I had the exact same problem. I tried all sorts of different things (loading from different save games etc etc)to see if it would dissapear but it did not.

What I did was leave brest do a patrol.. shink some ships when you are done go back to the base and everything will be back to normal (medals, promos, correct patrol grid info on next missions ) So in a sense you sacrifice the patrol renown to get it back to normal.

I do have a few mods installed (don't remember exactly I'd have to check) and by checking the flotilla info in the basic.cfg everything looked fine.

I'm really not sure what to make of it, but I just wanted you to know that by sacrificing one mission, you'll be back to normal.

OOPPS!!

Sorry I thought I was responding to someone who was having a problem! But what you describe happened to me exactly in that order.

It did correct itself once I did a patrol on my own and docked at Brest

THIS IS HOW IT REALLY IS.

1) How the game treat ports. In any friendly port you can sail close to it and you can "Dock At" that port. There you get a default loadout that you cannot control since in these ports you cannot access your boat menu. And you get fuel.

You can also give your crew promotions. That part is fully functional as it should be. It is just a little metal you pin to their uniform. Rebuilding and doing extensive service to the boat is another thing. That is why it is funny that you go into the port maybe with integrity 30% and leave 100%, the local machine shop definitely has some tools .....

leaving any of the friendly ports that is not your base results in a NULL mission. BdU can not give you a new mission since you have not come home yet. This perhaps has been fixed in the patches but if not then it definitely needs to fixed in the future.

Also some ports have the gear to service VII and some IXC, so I hope in the future we don't have to return to base, but just to a base which give needed service.

And when leaving such a port BdU ofcourse have a new mission for you.

2) Brest transfer, it is just some date mixup ending in Vilhemshafen just being a friendly port and you being without a home base ending in not being able to work on your boat.

3) when the mission order say return to Brest, but if you press ESC and the game returns you to Vilhelmshafen cause of the confusion then it works to sail close to Brest and ESC "Dock At" and the transfer will be complete.

you can really reload and refuel the u-boat at a friendly port, and received new orders from BdU just as you are about to leave the port?

fuel and torps you get ..... new order no ... you get a NULL mission. If you want to you could go sightseeing in the mediterranean oicean.

What I WISHED for in the game was the following::::

What I said was that you should be able to get new orders after leaving such a port, but it is not functional.

The fact that you get repair and torps in all these ports maybe ok, but strange, you do stay long enough in the port for a truck to drive torps there, I don't know the weight of a torpedo so maybe they need a lot of trucks.

I used that Bordeaux harbor a couple of times when I been too long outside Gibraltar. I guess if you have enough renown it doesn't matter much if you miss some since you won't get a mission to complete and get renown for.

Also I think getting into any neutral or friendly port may give you fuel but no new torps, as someone mensioned earlier is that if there are more than one sub in the area far away from home and one is being recalled and set for home journey after getting the fuel it might be possible to rendevous with this homebound sub and take its last torps on to your boat.

you get a NULL mission

What do u mean by that? You don't get any credit for any kills or renown?

The relocation to Brest bewildered me too, I started to go there and Brest was not even on the map. So what legodragonxp said is correct.

Still, a strange way to do things, but that's the Kriegsmarine for you (or UBI)

You get renown for sinking ships. But if I am not mistaken you get it for reaching your patrol area, stay there for 24 hrs and returning home (that is why you can get a VIIB within 2 missions without sinking any ships, just as long as you just follow orders)

Now, if you leave the harbo with a NULL mission how can you get renown for completing a non existant mission?

easy, drink more coffee before reading my posts, and while you're reading suck on a stress pill and read slowly and then try piecing together what I am trying to say.

Cheers!
