How do you steal the artifact?

Nothing in the manual and nothing in-game manual as well.

Did a search on teh board with various queries but nothing

Documentation is very poor in this game. A simple one page, or paragraph even, on how to do it would have been nice instead of a manual filled with the controls only.

In Artifact assault you run into the circle around the artifact (where it says steal in red on the map). It is Capture the flag.

In Steal the artifact, If you start the match from the beginning there are 2 chests on the ground and they are marked on the map. You run to and touch one of them.

If someone already has the artifact you simply kill them and it is stolen.

It is kill the man with the ball.
