An update for those interested http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

Got the menu.ini file set up finally. Chased down the bugs in the ini file and orderbars.cfg file causing SH4 to not load. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif One of them took a while because it was a missing semicolon. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

ARRRGGH that took a while to find http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

So far seems like all the textures are moved to the right places. Have the RFB fleet boat hud and icons combined with the icons in the 1.5 hud too. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

RFB now loads and runs in 1.5 using both the fleet boats and u-boats- YAY!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Order bar icons slot references are screwed up because of the changes in a couple of files from 1.4 to 1.5, but that's an easier fix.

Still need to go through and start looking at files that need to be combined (like shells.zon)

Had a couple of things that threw a curve, but figured them out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We need to merge some more of the text files, and then put out an alpha for those testing.

It won't be pretty http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif , but it'll allow us to try various aspects of the game engine and work on making sure all the previous RFB changes that still apply are merged.

While this has been going on, LukeFF has been going great guns with cleaning up the crew configs on both the u-boats and fleet boats using the new 1.5 crew management system. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif He's also working on numerous sounds and it looks like AVGWarhawk stumbled on a goldmine of sound files. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

AkbarGulag has posted an airlayer for RFB we're testing right now that will work with RSRD under both 1.4 and 1.5 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Some really cool stuff in there. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Ducimus is separating out a couple of things he's done from TMO so we can use them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Hopefully he'll like some of the stuff being done so we can return the favor.

Did a little more tweaking on the surface draft of the fleet boats when I was too frustrated with the problems with the .ini file. Will post some pics in the draft and dive time thread tomorrow.

As the old saying goes, because RFB will load in 1.5 "now we're cooking with gas" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'm REALLY looking forward to this release! Have you taken a gander at Poul's sounds, they're immersion squared...or at least to the nth degree! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

There is going to be a difference between the RFB sounds and other sound mods. The sounds in RFB are not designed to fit people's percecptions of what was "real". (often based on movie sound effects)

Instead, LukeFF is getting feedback from ex-submariners about what IS realistic. (we have 3 on the RFB team, nuc and diesel boat, and a couple more that we can ask questions of).

That said, we have no problem asking for permission to use great ideas from other people and combine them with what we're doing.

BTW, the hydrophone sounds are changing. LukeFF is using actual sound recording from WWII of different ship types. These are the recordings that were used in training school for hydrophone operators http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

(LukeFF here)

Yep, they are a great resource for sure. For those wondering where I am getting those hydrophone sounds from, head over to the Historic Naval Ships Association at hnsa.org and look for the section called "JP sonar training records." JP was the standard sonic listening gear of the fleet boats for the last two years of the war. The audio quality is excellent, and after listening to them it's really easy to get a sense of the training WWII sonarmen went through in order to be proficient at their job.
