Let me ask again and a little bit more seriously (as in "Fridayâ´s Question" last week):

1.) What about a fictional <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>"as if-historical" <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> option, to say: availability of U-boat type XXI during whole wartime, anyway earlier than in reality just the last few weeks before the final "Götterdämmerung"?

2.) Will SH-III offer anyhow realistic type XXI-performance like e.g.

- firing torpedos exactly determined from 50 meter depth?

- being equipped with quite modern automatically target-seeking torpedos?

- hardly to be detected by asdic or radar?

3.) Will (generally, also for other types) anti-radar equipment, like "Metox" or "Naxos"-FuG be implemented into the simulation?

4.) "Huff-Duff" was the real big danger for the grey-wolves - quite more than "ultra" by the way; will this be featured?

(With "huff-huff"-equipment, destroyers could determine a submarineâ´s exact nearby position, detecting itâ´s radio-transmissions. Different to "ultra" the german side never reacted, because all experts regarded something like that as absolutely impossible in technical means - although some commanders insisted that this and nothing else could only be the reason for the increase of "mysterious" exactly determined destroyer-attacks in concerning situations. And that means, those captains who followed their own opinion and kept quiet on long-wave if only possible, had a better chance to survive.)

Is interesting, because we know a lot of history, making us the main element of inexactly historic performace. We're able to avoid some trouble, as torpedoes going too deep or the ideal angles to avoid a dud, Huff-Duff, radar, we know some of the strategies of DD's and so on.

I think you should be able to use a type XXI from the first day of the war if you choose. I don't think it would be very challenging, but "what-if" scenarios have ALWAYS been a part of traditional wargames, so I am all for it.

In regards to Ultra, the one thing the US military does today that must have been a lesson is that you never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never ever transmit your location over the radio except in relationship to friendly OPERATIONAL GRAPHICS.

With the Uboats telling BDU their location every 4 hours, it must have been pretty easy for the Allies to find them reading their code in real time.

And HuffDuff relied on having a great number of receiving station to get a proper fix through triangulation. In many areas of the oceans, this just wasn't possible until very late in the War, as the Allies built up more asw forces.

Near the British Coast there was of course a much greater chance to be accurately located through huffduff.

Also the German use of shortsignal transmissions really curtailed the effectiveness of HuffDuff.
