With alot of new people starting to play Endwar I thought that a thread like this might be helpful ... a place for new players to ask questions without fear of hearing:

"Use the Search Function N00b"

Some questions I have:

1. Garrison vs Cover -- Which is more effective/provides better defence/offence bonus to infantry and engineers?

2. What is the Command Vehicle strong/weak against?

3. When should I use riflemen and when should I use engineers? (I'm finding that engineers seem to be more effective/multipurpose, compared to riflemen, especially against gunships which many players spam)

4. What does the "Sniper" ability that riflemen can upgrade to, what does it do?

5. How do I group my units? (so far I get how to put units into one active group ... I'm unclear on how I set up TWO or more active groups)

6. Is it better to start the victory timer first, or wait for the enemy to do so? (I ask this as the crash uplink ability and first strike WMD given to losing side is devestating)

7. Do players get a new WMD every time the victory counter is started or is it only one strike per match?

8. Do WMD'ed uplinks count towards victory conditions (I know that crashed uplinks do not)

Say "Unit 1 plus 2, create group" Be sure to articulate though, otherwise it gets frustrating. And to set up more just repeat the process and they become Task Group 1,2,3,etc.

6. Is it better to start the victory timer first, or wait for the enemy to do so? (I ask this as the crash uplink ability and first strike WMD given to losing side is devestating)

While Crah uplink is nice, if you're losing you're probably getting dominated. In my experience coming from behind is very difficult. So, if you have the chance to win, take it.

7. Do players get a new WMD every time the victory counter is started or is it only one strike per match?

No, the WMD then goes on an INSANELY long recharge timer. After first use that is.

8. Do WMD'ed uplinks count towards victory conditions (I know that crashed uplinks do not)

They do, all a WMD does is destroy the uplink so it can't be upgraded, it cna still be captured and fought over.

Answers to the questions I know in Blue

Thanks Vandrith.

Does anyone know the answers to the other questions?

Some questions I have:

1. Garrison vs Cover -- Which is more effective/provides better defence/offence bonus to infantry and engineers?

Garrison is more effective than cover. Infantry in garrison have more range, faster attack rate, and much more defence than infantry in cover.

2. What is the Command Vehicle strong/weak against?

The Command Vehicle should not be at the front lines of battle. The Command Vehicle is mainly used for the command SITREP as well as the UAV (when you get the upgrade for it). So the answer your question... nothing. It is just good at defeating the enemy's stealth capability.

3. When should I use riflemen and when should I use engineers? (I'm finding that engineers seem to be more effective/multipurpose, compared to riflemen, especially against gunships which many players spam)

Riflemen are good against engineers and just about every other unit (except tanks). Engineers are effective against every vehicle unit (while in cover or in garrison). Riflemen, however, move faster than engineers and they have the ability to stealth... making them better for capturing uplinks or doing recon or somesuch.

4. What does the "Sniper" ability that riflemen can upgrade to, what does it do?

The "Sniper" ability that riflemen can upgrade makes it so that they can snipe units much further than their normal range. However, you are unable to use it when the enemy is too close to your units. This ability is best used against enemy infantry units. It takes a full bar away from the hostile unit.

I would imagine garrison does

Command vehicle isn't really weak against anything and is pretty good at killing gunships

Riflemen are better on a map where your opponent will be using a lot of infantry and are better at securing a uplink so if you have no possible upgrades riflemen are a pretty good. If your on an open vehicle oriented map with little infantry combat and you have numerous upgrades Engineers are a better bet.

Riflemen are anti-infantry, anti-drone, stealthy (if upgraded) and good at close quarters (good against Command vehicle and Artillery, the latter only if you're within the minimum range).

Engineers move much slower than Riflemen and seem to take more damage when out of cover (I don't know about that last one, but it seems that way). However, they secure and upgrade uplinks faster than Riflemen, and when garrisoned the only thing that can defeat them are Artillery and Riflemen.

As for Garrison vs Take Cover...I am not sure about this. It seems like putting infantry in a building gives them an advantage (it makes sense logically, anyways), but I have had Riflemen in a building killed by Engineers in cover...go figure.

I'm pretty sure riflemen secure uplinks faster than engineers.

Engineers upgrade uplinks faster than riflemen though right?
