My X45's hat switch is spazzing out on me ever so often and going into epileptic fits, the sticks also got a fair bit of central play now.

So should I got for an X52 Pro or Track IR. I heard there was a cheap alternative to track IR, using a web cam, is it any good?

I need a new HOTAS stick really as opposed to replacing the stick with say a Saitek Aviator, as I play quite a bit of LOMAC.

The X52 pro looks so nice and shiny

Get a new stick and use the mouse switch on the X-45 throttle unit. Trust me. I'm a professional.

Thing is the mouse stick which i use for designating ground targets in LOMAC is also a bit duff

I highly recommend Freetrack.

I've got it set up with a crappy old Logitech QuickCam, and a red LED on the brim of my cap powered by 2 AAA batteries (power cells, not 88's lol) Took all of 20 min to build, and works very, very, very well. Getting your freetrack profile set up takes a week or so of trial and error, but it's worth it. Practically free, and smooth as silk tracking.

Here's a thread discussing it...

TrackIR, free track may work but it won't do 6dof and BoB will support that.

Freetrack WILL do 6DOF. I've heard praise of it, but can't speak for it myself, as I only use it in IL2 and have no need for 6DOF.

If you REALLY want to spend $200 bucks so you'll be ready for SoW, then have at it. But I've heard it might "be awhile". http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

All I can say is, without TIR you are missing out on an extra dimension of immersion and SA.

Can track ir3 use the vector expansion for 6dof, if so thats great. But seriously, track ir is one thing that will change the game for you. for the better.

I am using TIR2 and I'm still perfectly happy with it, I may upgrade once Black Shark or SOW is released ...someday.

I use the TIR3 Pro with vector expansion (6DoF)
Get TIR, you will kick yourself for going this long without one.

I agree with the previous posters remarks. I went through the original version TIR and skipped version 2. I now use TIR 3 Pro with the vector expansion and can vouch for the immersion factor.

The other thing I feel I should mention is the fact that your TrackIR will likely outlast your next 2-4 computers. This makes it an excellent PC hardware investment that you can amortize over, literally, years. If you consider most people get a new pc every 3 years or so, your TrackIR is a better investment than that.

"I have a mint Cougar system. Stick and Throttle both have the Hall sensor upgrade, and IJ NXT mod to the stick. Throttle has a Red Dog face plate. I will also throw in free a set of CH Pro Pedals that need a new analog cord. My cat chewed through the cord and pedals won't work. You can have them or not. Also in this sale is a TIR 4 PRO. Not the LED version, but the newer reflector version.

All of this equipment is mint, except the pedals. The reason I'm selling is I have a little child now, and I don't have the time to fly, and I need the money. With all the mods and upgrades, all this equipment cost me over $900.00 USD. I'm willing to sell all for $475.00 or B/O, and you pay for shipping and insurance if you want it."

very VERY tempting

Of course, he's listening...he said he'd give Freelook a try.

Aimail, I have TIR and it's absolutely wonderful. Go ahead and get yourself a new joystick and give Freelook a whirl. If you decide it's worth it, save your pennies for TIR. Or, should Freelook do the trick for you, stick with that.

Yeah Ill give freelook a go and if things dont work out I've seen plenty of used TIR 3 Pros with the vector expansion being sold, I really need a new stick this X45s got a centimeter of central play not to mention the other issues heheh.

You guys have convinced me to go for track IR as well though when I can! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
