Welcome to the game and the forums, JosephB13.
The game does not officially support any gamepads/joysticks, but there are some controllers to which you can assign different key commands. I don't know the specifics, because I prefer keyboard and mouse. Gamepads are just not for me when it comes to first person shooters.

To JosephB13,
Welcome to the game and forums and GR doesn't support game pads but a few work and most of us use keyboard and mouse as that is by far the best. Once again welcome./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Heres a simular thread where this was discussed last week
http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view-topic.asp?name=us_ghostrecon_gd&id=zssaq
You might find some usefull information in there but in sumery controllers arn't really supported in GR but I use a Strategic Commander & personaly I think it's superb.

Why would you want to use a controller with an FPS game in the first place? Mouse and Keyboard beat controllers hands down in the FPS department. I just bough a cheap and cheerful pad to use with a small batch of games that are impossible to play with keyboard and mouse i.e Virtua Tennis. That's what I think anyway..

I have several game controllers, I use mouse and keys for the game. It's too fast paced to use anything else.

Mouse and keyboard, every time. There's too much stuff to use a controller really, even if you did get one that worked with GR... IMHO.
Welcome to the forums anyway. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I use a Nostromo n50 speedpad. Enables you to use macros very easliy so you only have to push one button to do a super tiptoe and a tight peek. Very handy.

Emperor_Ming's link will enlighten you a bit; I followed his advice and found/bought a Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander and I love it. I disagree with one thing he said (sorry Ming): I would consider it a joystick almost. Imagine a joystick that is mashed flat and you lay your hand on it flat like a mouse, but instead of rolling around like a mouse the top section moves around the base like a joystick would. It even allows you to program keyboard keys to it's joystick-like movement so for me it's perfect for GR. If you can find one on eBay I recommend it. I'm trying to figure out the best way to secure it because it may slide a little bit, but it's a minor inconvenience compared to it's functionality...

I use the keyboard and mouse. It is an optical, with five buttons. Using it for the first time I was frightened when it started glowing red. I thought maybe Black September or Red November had planted a bomb in it. I find the mouse rather hard to use with the supplied dust cover....oops, I have just now realized that the dust cover could possibly be the packaging the mouse was shipped in. My bad.
Other little known features and facts of the PC setup:
1) The tray of your DVD drive will make a good cup holder.
You are probably wondering how I use this feature and still play GR. I would tell you, but it would only crack you up.
2) My friend Stanley mentioned my keyboard needed a good cleaning. After he left, I mixed up a solution of Pine-Sol and water and gave it a good soaking overnight. I throughly drained it and wiped it clean, and let it air dry. When I went to use it it wouldn't work. Stanley said I was a cacker Rawhide.
3) Do not use your mouse as a footpedal. Stanley said this is not a sewing machine.
4) I installed the first disc of the Gold Edition with no problems. I went to install the second disc and it wouldn't fit in the drive. Yes, my bad. I didn't realize you had to take out disc one two insert disc 2.
5) It is not necessary to face your computer to the opened side of your computer tower so it can see your new video card. Once again, my bad.

Actually, if you disconnected the keyboard before you soaked it and let it completely dry it would still work...

To this day I have yet to spill a beverage into a keyboard, mouse, monitor, case, et al, but I have had friends that have spilled into my systems in the past. My Apple //e was the worst victim. Beverages were always being spilled into the keyboard and some if it made it beyond the keyboard to the system board, but I was always able to secure the power before the liquid got to the system board. At any rate, I was always mopping liquids out of the Apple's case and rinsing the keyboard off under the faucet. As long as I let the pieces dry before I powered them up I was fine...

Well then you need my new and improved keyboard cleaning kit. Not only will it remove mucous and phlegm, but it will remove any bacteria that exists. Unfortunately, the high heats normally associated with a furnace might damage the plastic from which most keyboards are constructed so we at BuckCoManufacturing recommend that you test our product on an inconspicuous area before using our patent-pending system on the entire keyboard...

Ah, that'll probably work. I was thinking of something a little more permanent like opening it up (since they're discontinued and from Microsoft I doubt there's a warranty with which to concern myself) and affixing the base to a piece of plywood, but I'll try your system first because that'll be less <s>labor</s> - sorry should I say labour? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

A basic keyboard works well once you get used to it for gaming.
But one other suggestion/idea is to use a trackball- a trackball with all the extra buttons is even better.
Better than a mouse.
