View Full Version : Brand new computer and H5 still runs slow? :/

C2D E6700, 4 gigs of DDR400, and a 768 meg 8800GTX

... and Heroes 5 still bring the framerate to a crawl if I pan the camera out over the landscape (even if the landscape is covered in shroud)

There's either 0 LOD code in this game, or some other major performance issue

I previously had an older P4 3.2 with 2 gigs of ram and a 7800 in it, and I just assumed that my computer was a bit too slow to handle it

Now I simply don't buy that :P I can run World in Conflict or Quake Wars or Oblivion with everything cranked, but H5 is too much of a beast to handle?

I hope this gets looked at for the next expansion, it was an unpleasant shock to discover after I finished upgrading and ran the game again to see how smooth it would be (not, apparently :P)

Bingo.

Anyway how does the game run when your zoomed out from the top overhead view? because that's all you really need to play.

Its ok while zoomed in, it's just incredibly jarring any time I pan the camera and it stutters down to spf instead of fps

Seriously, why bother with a 3d camera if the engine is incapable of rendering the map?

Anyway, just venting, I was pretty disgusted to find that a new computer didn't help the framerate at all

I found it odd too that adding horse power to CPU & Video didn't really help with HoMM but that's just the way the game is.

So far it seems like there hasn't been enough feedback [pressure] to warrant UBI / Nival to go back and update it.

I tend to agree with PhoenixReborn06 though ... if you run well in the overhead view that's probably good enough for HoMM.

Wow, you're getting choppy video with that rig? I run smooth at 1680x1050 with everything on and I'm running 2.13 GHz core duo, 3 GB RAM and a 512 7950GT. I can't imagine why you're having problems.

I've noticed some lag since 1.5 came out at the start of every turn (~3 seconds), but once the game "readies itself" it runs perfectly smoothly.

What sorts of AV are you running? Any backup software or auto defragging going on? Or that cursed MS search thing? Just wondering.

I've read somewhere (in this Forum I guess) that H5 has problems with Nvidia 8xxx Cards. But please don't ask where, I don't remember.

Try looking somewhere in the Tech Forum, I guess you'll find some answers there
