Sony: extra GTA content no big deal (http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/03/sony-dismisses.html)

Um, sure. Just like Shivering Isles wasn't a big deal, nor was the extra content for Mass Effect really a big deal.

Do you have sales figures for Shivering Isles? I doubt it sold anywhere near as well as Oblivion. The Mass Effect content certainly seem to be a big deal from what I saw. I'm the only person I've spoken to who bought it and many of the people who convinced me of ME's quality didn't.

The GTA content is obviously going to be a big deal for hardcore gamers but it won't be out for six months and it's hard to gauge how many will see it as a big deal when making their initial purchase. Many of GTA's consumers are not the type of gamers to follow things like DLC all that closely.

P.S. This is a PR guy, of course he's going to downplay the importance of teh content. He's hardly likely to say "OMG SONY ARE DOOMED! SELL YOUR PS3"

Exactly. I fail to see how this is a story.

The Shivering Isles was outstanding and worth every penny and more.

I believe if people own both a PS3 and 360 they will buy the 360 version of GTA IV. I think the point of owning a PS3 is buy exclusive titles. And the people waiting to buy a PS3 (like me) already own a 360.

I really have no interest in buying a PS3 at the moment. Maybe when Socom comes out along with a price drop. I can wait to play MGS4. And I got GOW 2 & Far Cry 2 to play this fall/winter. So I might even wait until 2009 to get a PS3.

DLC is a big deal if it's done correctly. Example. I haven't played Mass Effect in a few months. On Easter I decided to stay home and take a mental health day. I downloaded Bring down the sky and played through it. That instilled the mass effect bug in my blood and have been playing the game for ridiculous stretches ever since. It's actually kind of horrible since I've lost sleep and have been late to work. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

So yeah, DLC is a big deal and can add extended life to old games. Especially if the DLC is 'content' opposed to just a new multiplayer map.

In that regards I don't know what the DLC is planned to be for GTA IV. If it's just multiplayer map stuff then boo. If it creates more time in the GTA universe via missions and story points then cool.
