hello again. in my quarters, reflecting on a crazy patrol (which took about 5 nights of real time, often with little to no sleep.
it was diverse, running into a little bit of everything. from ghost ships,to king george battle cruisers (which i regret to say eluded me)and all with minimal casualties (on my end anyway, heh)
i heard about the 100k club, does this qualify?
http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx257/green_abobo/SH4Img2009-07-28_114835_046.jpg
i actually ended up with over 150k by the end of the patrol, which in game time took almost five months.
just kept radioing in for objectives, and they seemed to be never-ending.
i finally had enough by the time the last one was received, didnt feel like another 7000 tons, and headed back to port to receive my knights' cross.
is it a safe bet there's a promotion in my near future?
how are the walter subs in comparison to the u-848...anything i should know about before i decide to go for it?
thanks again to you guys and some other skippers on subism who have brought me from 0 to hero.i appreciate it.

It would be great to have one( or a new one), but then there are all the MOD's to consider, stock is fairly easy, but TMO, RFB and so on, its allot harder to make that kind of tonnage.

Not in 41 its not, provided your reasonably lucky with the dud-rate.

Bah! In real life 10,000 tons was cause for celebration of a once in a lifetime cruise. How many times did you replenish without ending the cruise. A real crew would have shot you that many times and fed you to the fishies! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif
By the way, you can get 150k tons in 10 minutes or less. See the old 100k ton club thread.
I'm finding the most exciting gameplay is with TMO, where if you get 15,000 tons you're lucky, where the escorts drive you away from the convoys and you have to think about whether you want to waste torpedoes taking out some escorts to have a chance at a couple of 5k ton merchies in the middle.
I just find that the excitement factor is related to the process of getting the tonnage and is not related to the amount of tonnage obtained at all.
Ducimus' rabid escorts definitely contribute to excitement!

Robbins has it right....although I disagree about having to take out the escorts...there are ways around them, a lot of it is positioning yourself right....and running dead slow...i run a 1/2 a knot and even in calm seas unless they are right on on top of me, they pass by.
But yea you feel great if your bag 10,000 tons in TMO, its a challenge, like it really was.Although some of the subs made it look easy, submarine warfare was not easy.

With TMO early war your lucky to get 5 ships, maybe a few more with the Deckgun.
After 43, no duds I can score 50K tons on a average patrol, maybe 2 sinkings with the deckgun.
What I do is always go for the large ships loaded down. Usually it's one, two torps at the most, if they don't sink, I'll sit around for a day or so and finish em with the DG. If night, just get out of DD's sight. That's with contacts and cams on. TMO is hard, but still not realistic.
Play 100 % no contacts or cams, forget the stad, it's fairly realistic, lucky to get a 3-5 ships per patrol and every now and then get lucky with some captial ships.

this was not tmo,70 something realism,and i re-fitted a bunch.
i expected to get bashed, so i'm not sad.
if you set your expectations low, your margin of let-down isn't so great.
i had a chance to transfer,i declined.
currently trying to find one specific patrol before it reaches its destination, like looking for a needle in a haystack.
any advice on this topic?
will the game let me know when/if i find it?
thanks.

Guys,
Green abobo was driving a U-boote I think.
TMO does nothing for the German IO campaign except make the ocean look better.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
G_A,
If you were driving a fleet boat, I don't think the 100k counts if you refit. Besides, As Rockin Robbins states, he kind of blew a hole on the 100k club by using Neon Deons' Balao Cruiser. Racking up over 100k tons in seven minutes.

Good job nonetheless green_abobo. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif Just wish you were on our side, that's all. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Fleet boats are much bigger and comfier, compared to those cramped, musty, old U-Boats. The pay and grub is much better too. Don't be a sauerkraut. Now, why don't you remove that peace symbol from your lapel and jump on board for the big win. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

My guess is we all had a few of those stock patrols. I remember when I first started playing and found the forum I came in with a SS of my 500K patrol, about 8 refits.....
I was wiped with cheap toilet paper and flushed down into the lowest sewer.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

i do have tmo version 1.6 something...havent downloaded the new one yet.in the meantime,i figure i'll be playing stock until i can handle 100% realism before i decide to switch to tmo.
i like fleet boats too. just like being the bad guy once ina while.
what about this patrol (current objective) i have to intercept?
do i just need to be close to where it's supposed to be headed and i'll find it?
will the game let me know i have found the objective,or do i have to sink it first and then i'll be notified?
thanks. my sauerkraut sandwhich was phenomonal today,by the way...

If I remember right that convoy has a special icon once it's detected. I didn't enjoy that scenario at all, but don't remember why.

thanks. i did some digging with the find tool and came across a similar thread about intercepting and destroying convoy objectives.
apparently once you find them a red star or something of the like appears on the nav. map...still searching...
