If you don't know what Games For Windows is simply write "games For Windows" on an online search engine.

I really like Games For Windows Because whatever game has the Games For Windows Brand on it, then the game must require the following

* An "Easy Install" option that installs the title on your PC in the fewest possible steps and mouse clicks

* Compatibility with the Windows Vista Games Explorer

* Compatibility with the Xbox 360 controller (where applicable)

* Installs and runs properly on x64 versions of Windows Vista and is compatible with 64-bit processors (though the game itself can be 32-bit)

* Supports normal and widescreen resolutions, such as 4:3 aspect ratio (800 x 600, 1024 x 768), 16:9 aspect ratio (1280 x 720), and 16:10 aspect ratio (1152 x 720, 1280 x 800)

* Launching from Media Center (Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate have Media Center)

*Must be quality tested by Developer as well as Microsoft

I really really really hope Far Cry 2 gets the Games For windows brand put on it.

Ok here's my opinion about Games for Windows:
1. Yeah great but sounds like common sense to me.

2. Why? Vista is a hoax.

3. Complete an utter nonsense. We are PC gamers. Why would we want our games to work on an Xbox 360 controller?!? The keyboard/mouse sets the PC apart from consoles (Microsoft pushing out their product).

4. Again a waiste of time since 64-bit is not even close to becoming a standard. Another way of Microsoft to push their product.

5. This one makes sense, but I guess most developers will want to support that.

6. Uhmmm...... wtf?!?! Who benefits from this (=Microsoft). I bet less then 1% uses this.

7. Lol this one is funny... What does 'quality' mean. Sounds very subjective. If they mean it will be tested for bugs and may contain little or no bugs I am all for it. Otherwise not.

Here's a quality label I would like to see:

1. The game must be both DX9 and DX10 compatible.
2. The game will be subject to a intensive bug testing program.
3. If a game contains multiplayer it must contain both Linux and Windows dedicated server software.
4. The minimum requirements must at least allow two year old hardware.
5. Multi platform developed games will be severly tested on proper mouse/keyboard use and integration.
6. It must be possible to run the game without the DVD/CD inserted.

These kind of demands will benefit PC gamers, not the garbage demands Microsoft pushes out for their own benefit.

Plus the ability to use x-box controllers usually means the aiming system is dumbed down like in bioshock where thrown things go where the pc thinks not where you aim.

to get the GamesForWindows brand you have to pay top dollar to MS and you are dependend on their certification process schedules. just see: XBOX vs. PC regarding TF2:
TF2 had about 20 updates on steam and 2 on XBOX, that's a 10:1 ration in FAVOR of bugfixing. So this does not help gamers, it just gives MS more to say in game development.

a list like provided above would not be in their business interest since MS themselves Do not circumvent the language filter... up VISTA that much that they know they can't guarantee it. that's applied capitalism for you. Never works in real life.

i did not try to circumvent, I just typed it like I would have typed if there was NO language filter in the first place. Now my post looks even more "adult" with all the red letters http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

* Lies about needing Vista to play on Very High (Crysis)

* Lies about needing DX10 hardware to play on Very High (Crysis)

* backdoor deals with publishers (EA) to arrange 1st two points

* Backdoor deals with developers (Crytek) to arrange 1st two points

* Backdoor deals with chipset manufaturers (Nvidia) to arrange 1st two points

...oh wait, those are the bad things. I guess it must have slipped your mind. The point being with such hype over getting games MS certified you unleash the corruption that IS MS.

64 bit isn't some gimmick it will have to eventually become standard just like 16 bit and 32 bit did, also the error with the controller was probably just due to incrorrect calibration also, what are the chances of it running without a disc! Especcially with companies more worried than ever about piracy! And don't bag Vista, sure it was pulled off surprisingly poorly but unless Viera comes soon, Vista will probably become as reliable as XP, after all, this all happened with 98 and XP when it launched.

You guys are getting confused as to what is bad and good. "Games for Windows" is good, and games using "Windows Live" (which has the gold silver ****) is very bad. Just make sure you know the difference.

Just make sure you know the difference. No confusion in my mind at all. I see this as largely hype in an attempt to one sidedly tie PC and 360s together. Support for gamepads in GfW, yet no KB/M support in 360 titles is just another insult to what is becoming a series of dumbed down games for PC due to console titles getting the priority much of the time.

Aside from that some of the criteria of this certification are obviously not being followed, but then that's par for the course with MS overseeing QC. Need I remind you Crysis is a GfW yet is bug riddled and performing well below what it should on some of the high end systems. Crytek stating a small patch to primarily boost performance is needed before looking at a holistic patch is proof of the latter.

Gears of War is another GfW title that is in serious need of patching, which is why many of the threads on the Epic Games GoW forum are chock full of complaints about poor performance. I don't see these problems being addressed with expediency either as with IW/Activision's CoD4. And the problems with CoD4 were miinor by comparison, it shipped out much more playable.

It should be obvious to most whom use a Windows OS after seeing MS's Vista blunders that they have no business claiming they can competently oversee QC on such certification. It is clearly them trying to exert more control over PC titles, which is never a good thing. The point made above about Bungie, whom wisely left MS btw, is but just one example.
