Ok, so what's wrong? Synchronization with Ubi's poorly defended servers is disabled, and the files themselves are still there, in the Game Launcher directory. I even have a backup, since the game's nearing 100% completion.
This appears to be the result of Ubi's recent Game Launcher update, since I had no problem playing yesterday. What's up? I don't really feel like re-playing the entire game, collecting all feathers and treasure chests etc... Has this problem occurred to anyone else?
Edit: And now I got it to work - For some reason, the game managed to detect them when I enabled Save Game Synchronization. Wth?
