If you know what to write, you might be able to get them to do things for you."
How do we discover this symbol language? In the game manual, during game play or is there a link to a site where we can study it in advance?

the sense i get from certain previews of the game is that we will find symbols along the way.

That's the impression I got as well. I see it as not unlike the symbols we had to note down in Uru, meaning the ones we had to arrange in order so we could view Yeesha's holographic message in the Cleft. But in Myst V, we'll actually be writing those symbols versus punching them into a machine.
(Note -- that was a bit of an oddity in Uru. The panel on the holo viewer appeared to be solid stone, but we were able to change carvings in that stone just by touching them. Hmmm... Artistic license again?)

i'd have assumed you find them in-game aswell

Thanks;
Having now seen the video clips, I see.
In URU there was the image on the wall as a hint. I just hope there is some obvious primer, like the letter by letter translation of D'ni in Revelation, I don't want to play through the whole game before I figure out how to communicate with the creatures (Bahro, right?).
One could get hurt trying to communicate by trial and errorhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
