View Full Version : Broken Ch Pro Pedals, USB

Something strange happened to my rig over the weekend. My pedals seem to have forgotten what they are.

On Friday afternoon, everything was fine with my three game controllers (all USB): pedals, X-45, and Sidewinder FFB.

Friday night: no pedals.

In the Game Controllers control panel my pedals were missing, where they were formerly ID2.

When I tried to reinstall the pedals, the plug and play detector kept coming up with an unrecognized device. I've tried plugging it into other computers running OSX, Windows XP, Windows 98, and Windows 2000 and none can recognize them.

Can USB forget what they are?

They USB pedals don't come with any software AFAIK since they SHOULD just install immediately.

I've sent off a message to CH tech support but was wondering whether anybody here might have some suggestions.

Thanks for taking a look.

step one

move them to another usb port

step two, you got a broken wire inside!
mine lost the toe brake(s)
took them apart, fixed wires, put together, better than ever.
what a pain! just happened last week.

Step one: (actually) is control Manager v4.0 installed?

Step two: Have you calibrated them in Control Manager?

If you don't have Control Manager then, you can get it here (http://www.chproducts.com/retail/tech_control_manager.html). Try that to begin with. Any further help with CHProducts you can get all you'll ever need here (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/) right Hawgdog? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yes, what these gentlemen said.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The CH drivers will be loaded along with the the Control Manager and all will be well.... all CH drivers are WHQL-certified and there will be no conflicts.
Note: You MUST calibrate the pedals with the CH software....not in Windows Game Controllers. You will not need to alter anything in conf.ini - just configure the axes of the pedals in the HOTAS section of FB and you can adjust settings in game, or make use Fool_Trottels excellent settings tool.

You will also be able to configure both pedals independently. E.g Left pedal= brakes, Right= Flaps, or whatever. Or you can obtain a script from the forum to enable both pedals for braking. Sky's the limit http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hiya Ken!

I never got so far as the welding torch! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
I spent the good days riding the outfit at mid to high speed around Devon - and the bad ones mission building http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif The much-altered Fighterstick is still giving regular service - I'm just about to replace the pinky-shift button which is getting sticky. It's nice to have the spares so readily available.
So what functions are you using the DT 225 for? And that throttle looks great...nice work m8!

@Hawgdog - copy on the pedal pot cable. I wonder if CH have made any change to the routing of those two cables. I first noted the problem while trying to land a Beaufighter - I rolled into the English Channel before I thought of using the keyboard! LOL

Well as you know, it can be programmed to do anything you'd like http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Heh, use it as CM Device 1, why not? It's got an X/Y axis http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The Franken-Potato? Awwwww shucks, 't'wernt nuttin' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Thanks for the responses.

I've tried a number of different ports on different computers so that's not the problem.

And I'm pretty sure that Control Manager is for the gameport version.

Nevertheless I had already downloaded Control Manager 4.0 and it didn't find anything.

I think that the wire must be worn - nothing else makes any sense. Will report back and thanks again for the responses.

Take it from a CHProducts Control Manager Beta Tester. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Control Manager v4.0 is not for gameport devices. Okay, you downloaded Control Manager, did you install Control Manager? The pedals can not be calibrated or tested properly with out Control Manager. Something you may want to read (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2107)...

That said, and if the pedals are broken and, within their warrenty period you may want to get in touch with MichaelCHProd there at The CH-Hangar for an RMA

I downloaded and installed Control Manager and it did not see the pedals.

When ever I try to plug and play them, I get a "USB device not recognized" and a yellow warning flag appears over the USB device in my Device Manager.

I'll try the CH-Hangar - thanks for the lead. Wish they had a link from the CH homepage - or if they do, I wish it were more obvious.

Thankws again for the help.

As a user of CH Products for a few years now, I can only say how helpful they have always been. I busted my warranty as soon as I bought mine when I drilled holes and re-routed wires to accomodate my lack of a right arm. Even so I have received plenty of help, especially from Mike and guys at the hangar http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif and CH are prompt at repairing & servicing their products.
It does rather sound like the cable has got stretched somehow.

Although it's possible to dismantle the pedals and get a new USB lead from CH I don't recommend you do it unless you have a real necessity to take that step. I actually had to ask for my wife's help with reassembly! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Even though I did this all on my own http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Have you checked the wires carefully.I ask because my pedals suddenly stopped working. In fact when i plugged them in my wireless keyboard/mouse went off.Looked at the wires and discovered the kitten had been using it as a chew toy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
BUT, 5 minutes work with a soldering iron and they seem ok now (please god, they are only 2 month's old)
